Cross play

Can there be an option for console only cross play? Having played a few rounds it's pretty clear PC gamers have an advantage over console gamers, every match the PC players scores significantly higher than everyone else (and please spare me the 'pc gamers are just better crap'). I'd just like the option to choose.

Also, it's highly suspicious that turning off cross play means a much, much longer wait for a game. Coincidence? Or EA pushing cross play as their preferred option? This game is brand new, I can't believe there aren't plenty of players out there for non cross play games!

Anyway, I'm enjoying this, but the disparity in scores needs resolving.

  • This will never happen. They are sticking with Cross play for a reason, it increases their player base and means the game lives longer. Contrary to your comments, the devs have nerfed PC input for HOTAS and the mouse, seemingly in an effort to even the skill level.... good to hear is HASN'T WORKED AT ALL, and all their efforts have done is shun the core group of hardcore PC gamers that would likely be the games most loyal supporters in the long term.

  • A lot of PC players have played, or are still playing, the original games like X-Wing vs TIE Fighter or X-Wing Alliance. These people are *really* good. The skills do transfer. Heck it's by design since the lead designer of Squadrons is a fan of the original games himself. So a lot of PC players are already good. You need to improve.

  • Practice will make you better. This game is more complex than what players are used to today, it's a throwback to the past where you actually had to learn how to play a game, practice and develop skill to be good at it. Granted, console gamers likely aren't used to this as much as some old PC veterans.

If you think that PC Players with their HOTAS have an advantage, go and  a HOTAS with console support (Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS One for Xbox One, T.Flight HOTAS 4 for PS4) and you should have an even playing field with those (and more fun, too - although many say controllers work better for the game anyway). You'll see that in reality, the game is on an even playing field, no matter the system you play on.

The reason why you have to wait longer with crossplay disabled is that you are being matched with a much, much smaller pool of players and thus have to wait longer to find a match. No conspiracies here, just logic. And - aside from being able to play with all your friends no matter which system they are on - it's actually one of the reasons why there is crossplay to begin with, so you can get matched up quicker, so you just made a point for regular Crossplay.

The mouse control in the original games is not at all like the mouse control in this game. Your comparison is absolutely irrelevant. Just because Star Wars fans play both games, doesn't mean the skills are transferable. I need to get good? Maybe I play other games and I don't want to mess up my muscle memory playing this game and then playing EVERY OTHER SPACE COMBAT GAME ever made which has proper controls for the mouse. Get better at the game? I refunded it after 5 minutes of flight ingame, I have NO interest forcing myself to learn a combat system that sucks and is unique to only this game.

Anyone who disagrees is a Star Wars fanboi who would play this game even if the devs forced you to use your feet to aim.

Also these PC players you speak of are likely using a gamepad or a HOTAS and not a mouse. Every twitch player I watch using a mouse is years behind the twitch players using gamepad.
