Keyboard and mouse controls

I saw the disclaimer at beginning of game that stated the game was best played with a game controller. I prefer to play with mouse and keyboard and was glad to see it was supported. I think the devs need to spend a little more time on keyboard/ mouse controls. They are so wonky it feels like it was thrown in last minute as an after thought😞. I mean, why does cal have to turn around when i want to back up? This alone makes combat terrible and no fun😢 Turning and strafing with the mouse is really unresponsive too.

Devs, please put some effort into keyboard/ mouse controls please. I know it is not high on your priority list, but there are some of us who like to play games with the mouse and keyboard set up.

Thank you

  • Needing to justifying the normal use of a mouse and keyboard to receive support for a game launched on PC is... just not normal.

    Since we're talking about a game released on PC, the default PC controls should work naturally 100%.

    I did notice that quite 'often' the developers "forget" to include proper customization for PC users. Things like the lack of  'toggle walk', lack of FOV slider, lack of rebindable keys, asigning actions to different keys instead of 2 or 3 actions for one key, are things that one can see in today's game more than it should be allowed. Sometimes it makes one wonder how such big companies release games on PC without properly testing those games on true PC GAMERS...

  • The keyboard controls need more than just a little work. Two months in and frankly its still a horrible experience. Consistent delays in actions make fights extremely difficult, when they shouldn't be.

    This requires attention @EA_Atic

  • I totally agree with you - It was disheartening to see that caveat about using a controller. I refuse to use one!

    Key bindings were kept to be mostly consistent with Star Wars Battlefront II and other popular shooters.

    Here are some modifications I made:

    1 2 3 are a TERRIBLE assignment for force powers. I set them so they're all controlled with the same finger.

    T = Slow (slow time)

    G = Push

    V = Pull

    I rebound single bladed lightsaber to L CTRL b/c it's easy to reach, but it's out of the way. I left double at C b/c I don't use it as much

    Windows key - I often bump this during boss fights, so I downloaded a freeware app to disable it.

    When you're using mouse and keyboard, you have to have one specifically for gaming. The difference is your typical keyboard will transmit only a certain number of keys at a time, it will only pick up one or two keys at a time. When you're doing lots of movements with WASD & Shifts etc this makes a difference. You might need one specifically for gaming. I think the same can be true of mice - mine seems to work fine, in fact I couldn't imagine how it would work using a controller, it can't be more intuitive than a mouse. I haven't had any trouble with these controls except for the bindings, and I wish there were separate keys for rolling and evading. Also, I have to intentionally skip Switch Attack because it activates CONSTANTLY during fights.

    Thanks for the suggestions on re-binding some of those keys. I'm going to give those force power re-bindings a try, as I've thought the same thing - too far out of the way.

    I wish key bindings was the only issue with the keyboard controls. You pointed out one of the several - Switch Attack. Dodge is probably the most frustrating for me. I'm clearly initiating a dodge in time, yet I get clocked by the enemy. Given I have a nice optical keyboard, keyboard reaction time is not the issue.

  • The way I dealt with dodging, I left it bound to Z, but I have a Microsoft Sculpt mouse, and the included software lets you macro the 4th button - I have it press Z twice with 20ms in between. So I have a separate roll key. it works pretty well. I'm sure there is some freeware app that lets you do that. My mouse also has an extra Windows key that drives me crazy when I'm playing, another reason I disabled it.

    My (Logitech G502) mouse is also set up for dodge and roll. However, it is still very flaky. Hence, my comments.
