Please fix Rotational Inertia! There is too much!
Here is the ONE biggest problem with this game:
Too much rotational inertia!
Yes, it's a physics problem. What it means is that Squadrons makes it impossible to do a hard turn, come out of that turn pointing exactly where you want to point, and quickly fire off a couple shots to take someone down.
Not just hard, but nearly impossible. To do so, you would have to "counter-steer" perfectly - that is, make a hard turn the opposite direction to force yourself to come out of the previous turn faster. That is very hard to do. Especially for a moving target.
I went back and compared the turning physics (and turning-shooting experience) to Xwing Alliance, and found there was a *little* rotational inertia in that game, but not nearly so much.
It would VASTLY improve the fun of Squadrons (at least for players who are generally good at turning and aiming) to CUT the rotational inertia to about 1/3 or 1/4 of its present level! It seems to be worse in the less maneuverable craft. That is fine for it to be a small factor. But it is just too much!
If anyone is watching, please CONSIDER making this little change. I know it would affect the balance of things, but it's still early enough on for that to be justifiable, for the sake of the long-term competitive viability of this game.
Side note: it is *possible* I am mistaken, and I have a settings problem. I have tried widely different "sensitivity" and "dead zone" settings but it's always there. I have double checked I am on the right refresh rate and resolution. Some people say there is no "drift" for them, but the players who I know from XWA days who I remember getting *killed* by frequently agree with me that this is an issue =] I think some people mistakenly think it is a problem with only their chosen input (mouse, or stick, or gamepad), but I am pretty sure this is a problem across the board, with all inputs, because it is an issue of physics. (However, it could still be hopefully changed by adjusting ship characteristics, rather than changing the whole engine, the latter of which obviously won't happen.)
If you think I am mistaken, and you have a way to get rid of this "inertia" or "over-steering" effect, please enlighten me! If you agree, please post sharing your experience, so EA can see there are a lot of us who want to be freed up to aim better!
Thank you.
