Star Wars: Battlefront III
I've never actually posted on a forum before, but I wanted to share my thoughts on something that I think has really hurt multiplayer games over the years. Hopefully, EA will see this and at least take it into consideration.
I genuinely believe EA should stay away from skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) in the upcoming Star Wars game, especially in casual multiplayer.
I feel like SBMM has taken a lot of the fun out of gaming. Not everyone wants to get home after a long day and feel like they're competing in a tournament every single match. Sometimes we just want to hop on, have some fun with friends, and enjoy the game.
One of my biggest issues with SBMM is that you can have one or two really good games, and suddenly you're thrown into lobbies full of people playing like their lives depend on winning. It gets exhausting, especially when you're just trying to play casually.
I don't think having a good match should mean the next several matches are going to be miserable.
I understand the idea behind SBMM, and I get that newer players shouldn't constantly be getting destroyed by experienced players. But I also think there's a point where trying to make every match perfectly balanced starts taking away from what makes multiplayer games enjoyable in the first place. I also think it hurts the long-term player base. The people who genuinely enjoy the game and stick around for years shouldn't feel like they're being punished just because they've gotten better at it. Meanwhile, some of the extremely competitive players who grind the game nonstop at launch might move on to something else in a month or two.
Personally, I'd much rather have a mix of matches. Some games I do great, some games I get absolutely destroyed. That's just part of gaming, and I'm perfectly fine with that.
Casual matchmaking should focus more on connection quality, balanced teams, and just letting people enjoy the game.
I'm not saying matchmaking should be completely random or that new players shouldn't have some protection. I just don't think every casual match needs to feel like a ranked game.
In my opinion, SBMM has ruined games and it kills them really fast, with the streamer communities and highly competitive Warzone players that love the game at launch and then talk down on it and go bsck to fortnite and COD war zone.
I'm curious what everyone else thinks about SBMM. I get there's not a whole lot of options for balancing but SBMM, is not the answer for this game. I don't want this game to be like Battlefront II and the new Battlefield.
Hopefully EA takes some of the community's opinions into consideration before launch.
