Why EA ? Why this store difference again ? Why no oculus native SDK support ?

Why no native Oculus SDK support in the steam version to give your store version of the game an unfair advantage over the steam version.

I was not even aware that it was on Origin and that that Origin support VR games. It's too late to get a refund and even my rig can handle it (rtx 2080 i9900k 32gb watercoled) i would like to be able to have all the performance possible out of a game i did buy (of course its like a rent with digital version)

But could you make sure at least with can play the game we buy (rent) at top possible performance by using native SDK for each headset . Don't tell me its the devellopement cost of using the oculus native sdk with your game cause you did it for the Origin store version so ...

It as been since NHL 2016 that i was not buying EA product at all cause back then it was more a priority too fix Player CARD lottery  (micro transaction in the game) than fixing the vita remote play bad implementation (it was working fine in nhl 2015 with a vita) so you can play at professional rank properly without the button that was missing being mapped to the touch plate at the back (like nhl15 was done ok) but they use the excuse that it was to simplify control for the player using remoteplay but it was a simple omision since the remoteplay support was at sytem level so they didnt need to put any effort into it , so they did !. So i drop EA for 4 years and now i was giving you guy a chance with Stars wars squadron but again problem arise and again no reel support from EA.

1 The game dosent support native oculus SDK

2 the game ask about login to origin and if you dont connect to origin first before getting into your headset then you cant

3 Origin login in a steam game ? again store stupidy !  your war against steam and other store, me as your customer i dont care !

4 The game is buggy and hard to run without having issue like the game run a monitor but not in the headset and you lost sound but the game still run if you switch between an running application (ALT-TAB) and many other things that make it VR unfriendly. Many setting needed tweak before to game can run properly like why the game is trying to run a 4k version on the monitor and at the same time the native resolutionin of the headset of course its too much for any video card on the market. It show that the game is not fully desing for VR it's more like its tag on it cause it work but with too much work going into it like the cinematic. Come on it's in VR

Im from montreal, its because of this that i decide to encourage my people (motive studio ) but again EA is so custommer unfriendly why no phone line (again money saving !)

all EA care is money ? as a custommer im really starting to loose faith in EA (i did encourage them since their humble begining on c64 )

Everytime there is an issue with your product is hard to get in touch with someone , and your website dosent help this either it confusing and useless , it like once they buy your product you make sure they dont bother you in case of issue and that they will forget and move to up and buying your next game.

I dont care about origin store and i will simply stop buying EA product if they dont stop pushing origin down my throthe.

When doing PR for star wars squadron you said that PSVR and oculus was the recomended choice , you never mention that the steam version was not supporting native SDK

  • I totally agree, i wish they had at least done a better job of letting us know that Oculus users should buy for Origin.

But at this point i do also agree with you in that the steam version should also just support Oculus without the Steam VR version.

I've tried all manner of things trying to get around steam VR and just use Oculus to no avail. It's like the version on steam is a completely different version of the game with different settings menu's.

PLEASE EA, SUPPORT OCULUS ON YOUR STEAM VERSION. DON'T LET A STUPID ISSUE BE ANOTHER REASON THAT PEOPLE LEAVE! THE GAME IS GREAT!

  • @evidee64 I agree as well. I bought it in Epic Games store. Big mistake. I don't even understand why there is no native SDK support because epic is launching origin and origin launches the game. why is it not possible to use native SDK?
It could have been such a great game but vr performance is really bad...

they close my ticket as fixed ? wow ! what is fixed ? , no respond at all they just close the ticket , lame

  • @evidee64  For my mind Oculus SDK only in Origin version (not in steam ) is marketing issue.
    Why I think this ?

    See here https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/steamvr/settings

So steamworks open for developers choose to open or to not open Oculus SDK for each steam game which use SteamVR via OpenVR interface.

I think EA developers open SDK only for OpenVR configure for nonSteam Origin Game and “forgot” about Squadrons steam game.
For support open SDK for steam games they need just to check corresponding checkbox in Steamworks !!!! Nothing else !!!

So for my mind it is marketing issue , nothing more .

I don’t know how they made support Oculus SDK for nonSteam origin game. I don’t know how to configure OpenVR for nonsteam game. Do they need to open SteamWorks for it. But I think no. I think in origin game they just use OpenVR API and configure Oculus SDK use via API.

but for steam game they need to open SteamWorks or even shop page and make his developers settings for oculus SDK via checkbox.

Neither Steam nor Origin use the Oculus SDK, both versions use openvr. Steam applies supersampling on top, which origin does not.

  • There’s no difference between steam and oculus api, someone tested it in Reddit by refunding and trying them both. He said only difference was SteamVR tries to auto supersample, so unless you know how to check your pixel density, you might think it performs worse.

also links into people saying the steamVR version looks better.

so yeah don’t worry about it
