This was mid-game during playthrough (not the tutorial from meditation points) if that makes a difference?
In my case I went through almost every key on the keyboard and escape, or M (for map) had no impact which I thought was strange

Community Admin@vampyyyyy Thanks for the extra detail. And yep I can confirm that M did nothing in that instance. Strange that Esc worked for me and not for you, especially as it's one of the few un-rebindable keys.
