Black screen when i try to run it on 1920x1080

Hello,

I bought a new laptop that has an internal graphic card (Intel HD Graphics 5500), and also an external one attached (AMD Radeon R9 M375).

I can start the game but the problem is after... it starts on resolution 800x600 when i have 1920x1080. If i try to change it manually from settings my screen turns black and only thing i can do is to CTRL+ALT+DEL to stop the game that is not responding or at least that is saying in the task manager.

I've checked the "client_settings" and there all around it was set to 1920x1080, i also tryed to delete the "client_settings" and nothing happend, when it has created again, it has the some thing in it, but my game still can't run FULL HD.

This is what my "client_settings" countain:

[Renderer]
AllowColorRemapping = false
AllowDepthOfField = false
AmbientNPCCount = 35
D3DFullScreen = true
doBlobShadows = false
doShadows = false
DYDDrawDistancePreset = 0

GraphicsDeviceId = 26656
GraphicsQuality = 0
Height = 1080
NativeHeight = 1080

RefreshRate = 60
ShaderSet = 1
SpeedTreeDistanceScale = 0.75
TextureAnisotropy = 1
TextureQuality = 1
VerticalSyncState = false
Width = 1920
WindowX = 0

    Thanks for trying to help, but nothing changed.

    When i press ALT+ENTER it goes to window mode and 1024x768, but in this mode i can't change the resolution. It stucked on 1024x768, and when i go full screen it turns black.

    Any other ideas...?

    I have installed the latest drivers from the official sites of both boards (intel and amd) and nothing new happend.

    i attached some dxdiag captures, hope it helps.

  • @Mircea86 have you gone into your switchable graphics options ans specified for SWTOR to use the AMD high performance GPU?  If you don't do this it will default to the standard low performance internal GPU and may not render at the resolution or graphics level that you wish creating the problem that you describe.

    On my gaming laptop with the dual GPUs in order to specify the high performance GPU right click on the desktop, then select "configure switchable graphics", then either choose SWTOR or add SWTOR to the program listing and then choose then under the "Graphics Settings" pull down menu choose "High Performance". Also make sure that you go to your power settings, then choose High Performance and do not use balanced or power saving.

    Have you tried editing the client_setting file to the below

    Fullscreen = false
    D3DFullScreen = false
    RefreshRate = 60

    Once ingame any change when you set the resolution etc again or still the same

    Hello,

    So... i setup up manually SWTOR to start with the AMD high performance GPU but nothing changed, even if i switched from "Balance" Power Plan to "High Performance" Power Plan.

    Then i go to second post and i change

    D3DFullScreen = false (was set on true)
    RefreshRate = 60 (nothing needed to change here).

    I wanted to change also the change "Fullscreen = false" like it says in the post but in my client_setting "Fullscreen" line doesn't exist.
    Well after i make those changes i entered the game and on my surprise it was set by default on 1920x1080.... sooo the problem looked solved, but it wasn't really fully solved... why i say that:

    - it is stuck on "Very low" level of details, and if i try to change anything at graphics, after i press the "Apply" button a pop-up window appear in the middle of the screen that ask me if i wanna "keep the changes" or "revert". In this point the game become stuck... can't press "keep the changes" or "revert"... can't do anything.
    - And the other problem is... after i press the windows button from the keyboard the minimize the game on the start bar, when i press the icon game from the bar to make it full screen again the game simply doesn't restore back.
    Any ideeas for those two problems?

    Beside that everything looks, and working normaly until now.
    Thanks again for spending your time trying to solve my problem.

    Have a great day,

    You can manually add the fullscreen line to the client_settings file

    It may be worth looking at the swtor folder in the appdata location where the client_settings file is , try right mouse clicking on that folder and untick read only on the folder properties to ensure the game has access to write
