I assume since it's a newer domain / TLD it's not setup in the system to accept it yet. May be getting in the future but no ETA on to when.
I've registered new domains before under the .ca and .com extensions and they worked fine. It's specifically the .xyz domain extension that the SWTOR site won't accept. Also, as I've stated already, the Electronic Arts website (Origin), accepted my .xyz email with no issues.
