I've recently reinstalled SW:TOR and I got to a point where I had to have the smuggler companion Corso Riggs with me to progress. I'd thought nothing of the fact that I'd had no companions as I was questing around, figuring I hadn't gotten to the point yet. But, no, I'd gotten Riggs back in the day when I had been playing more (and subscribing) but now is not there on the new companion tab. See attached image.
check the fist icon see if he's there to summon him i had to do that with two or three of my comps on different toons

Isn't that the follow on Quest after you talk to the Dude on your ship... did you happen to skip a phase where instead of actually travelling to the station old school you may have clicked on the "Travel Now" styled button or used your legacy travel/guild ship travel instead?
He's a 'guest' and not a companion until you actually do that step.

same thing happened to me today. I had my companion andronikos revel following me as part of a quest line to unlock him in the future. And now hes gone. just gone. cant summon him from my companions tab. the only one that shows is khem. I need Andro to continue in the story... the game yells at me that I don't have him. but he's gone.....
