I tried the antivirus/firewall workaround and nothing. The launcher launches, and I can get into the game and see the servers. Every time I select a server (doesn't matter which one) I get the "A connection error has occurred" message. I haven't played the game since about 2017 so I doubt very much I'm banned.

Support suggested to call them to assist further , they can also see you have steam connected, if a chargeback occurred on steam for example, it can cause what your seeing

Thank you, you've been a huge help. And I mean that, I hope it didn't come across as sarcasm.
Hi, could you please post an update on what the corrective action was that you took to fix this?
I've been a consistent subscriber since Day 1 all those years ago [2011, 2012?] and over the past few weeks, I continue to have this exact same issue. It's funny, it seems to have occurred when the Origin app got retired but I'm not 100% positive on that. Anyway, I'd like to know what to do so I don't have to spend hours on the phone with support who's just going to read through a script.
Thanks!

most connection errors are either firewall based or net routing issues, if a routing issue a VPN would work
in the case of the OP his account was restricted and refused access to the servers
Hey, so I'm having the same problem, I get to the select server part and then it says "a connection error has occurred".
I've tried it with the launcher from the SWOTOR website and the launcher from steam and got the same problem both times.
I'm just wondering how I go about checking if my account is restricted for whatever reason.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

swtor account displayname ?
reboot the modem/router if not done so yet too - proxos6662 years agoHero+
normally with uni internet it could be a firewall issue , have you ever played on that network before ?
edit: easiest way to tell is simply tether the computer to a mobile phone and access via the gsm network not via uni wifi and see if the issue is still there - @proxos666
No, I've just got here and was hoping to start playing again.
It has been a few years since I last played though and the wifi I used last time was known for causing more than a few problems. - proxos6662 years agoHero+
i would tether the computer to a mobile phone and access via the gsm network not via uni wifi and see if the issue is still there
likley uni wifi firewall to be honest - @proxos666
Yeah it's the uni firewall, I tethered to my phone and it works now.
Any way to work around the firewall so I don't have to use up my data or is it just not possible? - proxos6662 years agoHero+
uni internet administrator would need to open the following ports on their firewall, you would need to ask them
- The TCP ports (and port ranges) you need to open: 80, 8995, 12000-12999 and 20000-30000

Hello @proxos666
I'm having the same issue @Fennck had. I was inactive for some time and had to reinstall the game, now I can't connect to any server. I have tried all known possible solutions like messing with the exeptions in Windows Firewall, reinstalling the game etc, rebooting router... Only thing I haven't tried is messing with TCP ports because dont think my issue is that My displayname is iTheRealNation (don't think the account is banned).
Any help? THX in advance! - proxos6662 years agoHero+
no account issue, support also were able to access the servers on your account
try a different internet connection and dns server would be one of the first things to check
- iTheRealNation2 years agoRising Novice
THX @proxos666 for the reply
I already have the best internet connection avaliable in my area (DSL 12 Mbps) I know it's bad but I was able to play before with some disconnections from time to time
I was unsucessful with changing the DNS, tried Cloudflare & Google Public.
Next I'm going to try with a VPN to check for any differences.
Has the game change any pre requirements for internet connections? - proxos6662 years agoHero+
no changes to internet requirements, it is possible this is a ISP/routing type issue, in which case a VPN may help
- iTheRealNation2 years agoRising Novice
Hello again
VPN also didnt work, any more ideas?
I will post this issue at forums.swtor.com for more help. THX - proxos6662 years agoHero+
you need to ascertain if this is a net issue or a system issue
only thing i can suggest is try to narrow this down is tether your mobile phone to that system and play through the GSM network ( not via the home wifi ) and see if it persists
other then that try playing on a different system if you can on that internet and see if the same issue occurs
doing both these will point at where the issue lays

Hi @proxos666
I used to play through ethernet cable the last time I was able to connect to Darth Malgus server.
I will try through GSM Network but unfortunately cant use it as a permanent solution if it works because of limited data
THX - iTheRealNation2 years agoRising Novice
Hello again
GSM Network didn't work also, next I will try installing the game on a test HDD with a fresh Windows installationTHX for all the help until now!
