Re: Unable to launch game after 7.4.1b

@KyrexJare

Can you try a repair firstup per https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion-Technical/GUIDE-Client-Repair-Scan/m-p/6454174#M70804 the play button is needed to be lit up to do a repair

if that doesn't want to activate after login,  more info on the system would be handy can you attach a dxdiag per https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion-Technical/Guide-Posting-a-DxDiag/m-p/4832663/highlight/true#M70799

also paste the current contents of the client_setting file into the post too

    I attempted the repair, but the option was grayed out.

    I performed the dxdiag procedure as described in the link and attached the file to this reply.

    The contents of the client_setting file are pasted below:

    [Renderer]
    AntiAliasingLevel = 4
    AtlasQuality = 0
    Buckets = 5
    CodeVersionChanged = true
    DYDDrawDistancePreset = 2
    EnableSSAO = true
    GraphicsDeviceId = 9860
    GraphicsQuality = 5
    Height = 2160
    InfoGraphicsVendor = NVIDIA_GPU
    InfoGraphicsVideoMemoryMB = 24142
    LastCodeVersionRun = 4
    MeshLODQuality = 1
    NativeHeight = 2160
    NativeWidth = 3840
    NewBucket = 5
    ShadowMapNumCascades = 8
    ShadowMapResolution = 2048
    SpeedTreeDistanceScale = 1.25
    TextureAnisotropy = 16
    Width = 3840

    you were never affected by the issue for login in the swtor forum, that was solely intel cards

    Initial look there could be a few possible causes , first one is to disable the ingame UI for overwolf , injection of a third party UI can crash the game on initial loading

    reason why look at overwolf first is the crash report for it in the dxdiag

    Problem signature:
    P1: Overwolf promotions.exe
    P2: 0.242.1.6
    P3: 65ed74d3
    P4: ntdll.dll

    At the risk of sounding foolish, I don't even know what that is.  I have never deliberately downloaded or attempted to install any kind of UI mod things for SWTOR.  I wasn't even aware that was an option.  I've only ever used them for WoW or Fallout.  The only recent download of any kind to my PC was Helldivers 2, and I have not modded that in any way either.  If I was never affected by the log in issue as you say, I am confused why my inability to launch the game coincides to the hour with when I installed the 7.4.1 update.  What would you recommend I do?

    I went into programs and uninstalled Overwolf.  I am unsure why I had it to begin with, which is more than a little disturbing, but I'll investigate that later.  After uninstalling Overwolf, I attempted to run SWTOR again and was faced with the same result: loading screen crash followed by crash report.  I included a screencap of the crash report notice with control panel in the background to show no Overwolf is installed.  Do you have an additional suggestion?

    @KyrexJare

    another crash report ties it to the nvidia driver

    Problem signature:
    P1: swtor.exe
    P2: 1.0.0.0
    P3: 65fa20da
    P4: nvgpucomp64.dll

    was another reason why to look at overwolf first as the crash would occur on rendering

    Another possibility is the game is now confused on what the system can do , although the client_setting file has the resolution set correctly

    I noted you did a complete re-install of the game already so that should rule out a game file issue

    just to be sure in that client_setting file insert the following in the [renderer] section and be sure to save the file

    Fullscreen = false
    D3DFullScreen = false
    RefreshRate = 60

    I altered the file in the way suggested, and have included a screenshot of the opened file.  I saved it, closed it, then attempted to launch SWTOR, but ended with the same result: crash at loading screen followed by a crash report notice.  Please advise if I have altered the file incorrectly or if you have an additional suggestion.

    Saw this a moment later.  Updated NVIDIA driver, screenshot attached.  Attempted to launch SWTOR again, with positive results.  On first launch it loaded character select but with a window smaller than my monitor.  Attempting to alter the fullscreen or fullscreen windowed mode triggered a crash.  On my third attempt, it loaded in fullscreen windowed despite me not saving those preferences due to the crash.  At this time, I am logged in and it appears to be functional.  Thank you for your time and your assistance.  Upon reflection, do you believe the combined effect of a simple outdated driver and whatever the heck Overwolf is, caused the failure? Or was removing those two obstacles simply enough to allow the program to power through and function? I am asking for any future reference where I may be able to solve my own issue without having to resort to forums posting.  Thank you, again, for your aid.

    @KyrexJare

    Not 100% sure, Swtor is one of the few games that read the edid of the monitors to govern resolution capability , the nvidia driver can at times affect this as well

    the fact the game opened in a smaller window points to the rendering side of the game on load, not all issues can at times be fixed with the client_setting file and the edid requires editing

    Installing the latest nvidia gfx driver may have helped on its own

    I would suggest not to alter fulscreen(window) mode , there is a chance it may fail again if changed

    Thank you for your speculation, it helps me develop my own knowledge base for self help in the future.  As for fullscreen windowed mode, it is my preferred way to play, so it is fortuitous that it settled itself on that setting.  I will have no need to alter it from its current settings.  Have a great evening, and thank you again.
