SWTOR won't launch after windows update

recently I updated my windows OS (to version 10.0.18362 build 18362), which caused SWTOR to no longer launch (getting the 0x0000005 error code). I've tried every fix I could find on the internet, and so far the only thing that works is to manually revert my OS to the previous version of windows which is only good as a temporary fix. I have never before had this problem with any version of windows.

Try creating a new windows administrator account and try to launch the game there, if no change delete that windows user is only for testing

from the error code i would suspect another program to be honest, one that is likely injecting an overlay on startup

The problem doesn't solve itself by that. I've looked into the overlays that I know to have active on my pc, which are from steam and discord, but nothing about it changes when I disable them. Any other overlays that you think might cause the issue? Could be something native that I don't know about.

It may not be an overlay though

do you have a full crash report ? if you press the windows key and type reliability is there much else listed ?

Someone on the swtor discord posted the same error code after updating windows, if that isnt you they said they fixed it by the below

FIXED deleted the swtor folder (with retailclient and diskcachearena) and force repair again

  • @proxos666 I've even already done a clean install of the game, even wiping the leftover registry entries after I deleted it the game still shows the same error then with the newest update, but works fine if I restore windows to the previous version. The problem must have something to do with windows itself since I don't know what other thing I can do with SWTOR aside from what I already did.

The only thing you can try with swtor itself is to switch patchers per this guide link but that is it

is it actually the launcher not appearing ? the launcher is based on the chromium framework if it helps other then that C++ installations ok ?

Same occurs in a new windows administrator account ?

When you go into reliability history are there any other error reports ?

Edit - can you also provide a dxdiag per this link it gives a better idea of your system
