Phoenix squad is an obscure an prior to this event worthless and confusing team. After obtaining Thrawn, they will sit and gather dust. I have faced a max g11 Phoenix squad in the arena, beat it in less than a minute with Sith/Empire (they were probably put there to aid the rise of a shardmate). IMHO They were chosen for just the reasons I have stated, an influx of new p teams will not result in a swarm of wiggs teams like EP did. That coupled with the hope of grabbing fans of "Rebels", and by extension Thrawn fans from the EU. In all fairness I doubt it was CG's choice that added them and a request came from higher up. OP, you're entitled to your opinion. I just completely disagree.
First off I wanted to thank you for being so civil in disagreement, it truly is rare on the internet. I wouldn't say Phoenix as whole is completely useless outside of the Thrawn and flash event since I've heard their ships are really good. However since those ships aren't farmable they're pretty close to collecting dust like you said. I bumped Ezra up to 7* gear XI and I've found him very useful in Jedi and Rebel teams. At least 1 of them is viable in top tier arena.
I've tried Kanan gr 10 yesterday in P2 with zQGJ lead. It's also a nice place to run him. His unique gives him a lot of survavibility. His cleanse is also useful when the protection is gone. And finally his counter with offense down also ensures less damages on your toons. I plan to run Ezra too in a rebel team also for P2 (Wigglo + Cassian).
And as you said, their ships are nice and I'm just waiting them to be farmable (I already started working on Ghost).
