my wife and I are already tired of Ahsoka's smugness and attitude. Crazy how they changed her so much already and no one seems to care.
I was writing about this to someone else just yesterday. They're trying to make her the reserved Jedi Master, but she wasn't a Jedi master and there's a reason for that. You can't just undo her entire backstory b/c you think that she has to "act like a master" now. - MasterSeedyNew AceSo for people talking about Sabine surviving the lightsaber stab, the best explanation I found was that the dark apprentice character was trying to leave her alive to keep Ahsoka too busy saving Sabine's life to follow her and get the map back.
If Ahsoka is rushing Sabine to the hospital, it doesn't matter if she's skilled enough to kick the Apprentice's butt. - MasterSeedyNew Ace
the fight between the 2 padawans seemed less skilled than most lightsaber duels we've seen. which would be fitting, considering they are both not fully trained.
Absolutely true, and a reasonable thought process. - M0st1yHarm1essNew SpectatorI chuckled at Star Wars Theory's joke that QGJ seems the only one who did not survive a stab through the gut, and actually the most skilled one.
- NotRealUltraSeasoned Newcomerman all the complaints of surviving the lightsaber wound are over exaggerated imo
it was fine - MasterSeedyNew Ace
Therein lies the problem though... There is too much of this going on in the new Star Wars stuff where the fans have to fill in the gaps and make up theories to explain inconsistencies...
Hard agree.
It's not so much that you couldn't survive a hole through the gut -- that happens with gunshot wounds all the time, and they aren't automatically cauterized -- as that if the person wants to kill you and you do that dramatic moment of the person impaled and shocked and motionless, all the attacker has to do is pull the lightsaber out through your side rather than the way it went in.. Maybe a parting shot chops off the top half of your skull.
Sure, you can survive a stab, but the fact that you're standing or lying there so easy to finish off and the attacker doesn't finish you off invites the viewers to ask WHY the character isn't dealing a coup-de-grace. Does the apprentice not actually want to kill Sabine? Surely the apprentice knows that people can survive a cauterized hole through the gut if we know that. So her choice not to finish off Sabine is intentional. It's not just her thinking Sabine was already dead.
What does that say about her? Is she merciful? Is she not actually loyal to her master? What?
We don't know, and likely we will never know, because it's likely (not certain, but likely) that the writers aren't even thinking about how silly it is not to deal a killing blow when you have someone helpless and you know that medical aid can save them.
And that just makes them bad writers who aren't thinking through the realities of the worlds they have created. It doesn't even occur to them that they need to stay consistent with the premises of lightsaber combat as established in 500 previous sources. - I agree with the comment about her smugness and attitude. I did not like it. I also agree with the comment about bad acting. I did enjoy it though. Sometimes it takes actors a few episodes to get the character down.
- A lightsaber that can cut through tough metal alloy would melt / burn every bit of your squishy insides. It's not like a gun wound.
Never mind this, the lightsaber fights were all pretty terrible. So much over acting, spinning, needless raising of arms and thereby exposing the entire body. ?
(Mind you, Kylo & Rey vs red guards in TLJ was worse, so it's not a new thing.)
Someone already mentioned the ridiculous first scene with the High-Profile Prisoner being transported with minimal security. It's almost as if they wanted her to be rescued.
Hera looks as if she is discussing the weather when it dawn's on her that Ezra might still be alive. And seriously, they hadn't considered that he might be alive even though Chimaera clearly didn't explode but was taken into hyperspace at the end of Rebels? What a great family...
Sabine is insufferable and acts as if she was a teenager. Ahsoka has no expression except stoic smugness. Why was Sabine her apprentice? Since when does she have the Force? Or don't you need the Force anymore?
Ahsoka was never a Jedi Knight, yet the opening crawl (which looks like something the Intern quickly did on PowerPoint) claims that she is.
Morgan Elsbeth is now a great ally of Thrawn's during his time in the Empire. Since when? There is zero set-up for this. She sure would have come in handy during Rebels.
Fetch quests upon fetch quests and the "puzzles" are laughable. Nobody thought about twisting the golden snitch? Even if you didn't guess the clue, you could have tried every combination and be done in an hour. But apparently only Sabine can do that.
The self destruct droids in the old temple... If they had succeeded (which is unlikely given the arming sequence took forever), Ahsoka and the map would have been destroyed. Great plan.
Thrawn... There is no reason anyone watching should be concerned about him unless you know Heir to the Empire, Rebels (even there he was hardly brilliant) or have read the books. A little bit of setup for the supposedly evil villain would have been nice. Other than saying "there will be war". Show, don't tell.
I could go on but the writing is so bad and relies purely on people's nostalgia for these characters.
I want to like the show but my hopes are slim.
