Certain things make this game fun. Coliseum has almost none of those.
Since CG apparently doesn't understand what most people enjoy about this game, let me spell out some of them:
- Strategizing about team composition and character interactions
- Experimenting with unit synergies and kits
- Skillfully using characters' abilities to win battles
- Using characters in thematic teams based on Star Wars lore
- Seeing characters's impact in a variety of game modes
- Finding optimal mods to enhance a character's abilities (Not everyone loves mods, but they're a form of strategy that some enjoy.)
These things are FUN for most players. I think we could summarize these aspects (and others I'm not thinking of) in two words: strategy and player expression.
Coliseum has almost none of these:
- Era characters are locked away from your other characters. You can't choose your team.
- Unless you paid a lot of money, you're limited to extremely basic, boring kits.
- You use a couple very simple abilities for a few turns until you die.
- You're locked away from units' intended, lore-based teams.
- Era characters are locked away from making any impact on other game modes that players care about.
- No mods are allowed.
In short, CG has made a new game mode that intentionally limits or disallows strategy and player expression—the very things that most players find fun. How did anyone at CG think we were going to enjoy this?
I used to get excited about new characters being released. Now, there is zero hype and I couldn't care less. I can't imagine what would induce someone to spend money on a character that's locked away in a kiddie pool for a quarter of a year.
