For those saying the same materials were refunded, so it is fair... It's actually akin to bait and switch, aka fraud, which is prohibited by law/FTC. They use a multitude of in-game resources/gear to obfuscate the cost of the end product we ultimately pay for. But to simplify it, you could say the materials we bought is less valuable since it no longer produces a character as strong as originally advertised. In other words, when a character is nerfed, the in game currency used for it has been devalued as well. So we've been refunded something of lesser value than what we paid for. And this still ignores the other payment decisions made surrounding this character build, such as building out the rest of the squad or the mods tailored to that character.

It's a very interesting concept. I mean let's take a look at something like League of Legends, that has game balancing all the time. You 'could' by a new character with real money and it be OP on release. Then, to have it brought into line with the other game characters.
However here, we have the above in play and other factors. 1. Players may have bought Merrin or Homeless Ezra for real money because of the synergy they had, believing there was no chance of them being nerfed. CG, then refund that real money purchase with in game whatsits....not the real money spent. However, how do you refund a character when it was bought in a pack? The other thing to note is that neither of these characters are/were the most OP in the game, but were both low earners for CG compared to things that are blatantly broken, but bringing in money.
It's a real mess, and on the whole unpopular. Still they got away with it once 4 or 5 years ago......if these are the only changes, then it's not so big for most players and it'll a slide. If it's a regular thing? Well with that's a different scenario.

This. It is a very simple concept. Ezra is obtainable via conquest, and was working well with a GL that has existed for a long time now. They are losing out on revenue since you can obtain Ezra via Conquest, so you don't have to spend anything on GLAT (which includes taking Plo Koon to Relic 8 - I don't see them buffing any of the characters that are required to get GLs).
What CG is doing is also most likely not legal since they are taking something from you that you payed for. Thy have the right to change the characters as they want to but they went into every players account and took something from them that had more value than it does right now.
This drama could all have been avoided if they had simply not removed the relics from the characters and the omicrons, but refunding the mats used to upgrade them nontheless.
