Character idea: Rebel Pilot

With Rebel Pilot already in the game, it seems such a shame that it's not already playable, especially since its antithesis the TIE Pilot is.

The Rebel Pilot could become assigned to pilot the existing Y-Wing or if not then any other future Rebel ships like the A-Wing, B-Wing, H-60 Tempest bomber, T-Wing, Rebel ARC-170 etc.

  • Oh, random thought for the 14th ship.

The captured Lambda Shuttle from RotJedi,  Endor mission Crew could be JKL, Drogan, &/or Rex.

  • I was talking hypothetically about IF they added the Rebel Pilot. But I want to chime in here to say that I actually agree with Schwartzring that that's what crewless ships are for.

I will add, though, that I'm not excited for them to add any more crewless ships until they come out with a way to strengthen them over time as fleets get stronger. That way you can make them peers with r3 crewed ships, then allow you to bump them up to be stronger and keep pace with the ships you have to invest in.

I don't know exactly how this would work, but maybe give all crewless ships a stat bonus equal to X * (Fleet Commander's relic tier - 9), then provide some new mat that allows you to reduce the relic penalty by 1, to a maximum of 6 (since we're starting out making the ships = r3 piloted ships).

If your fleet commander ever goes to r10, assuming they ever introduce r10, then you get one free power boost for taking your commander up that high even if you don't invest any special mats. But until then, you get no bonus without investing these new mats and having your Fleet Commander pretty highly relic'd.

I actually think this is an interesting idea, the answer to what would seem as a nerf to the Y-wing is a lot simpler than it looks in my opinion. The Y-wing doesn’t need to be nerfed at all and keeps the stats it already has and still functions as a crew less tank without the pilot. Instead adding a rebel pilot provides a significant buff to the Y-Wing, with a new ability/unique, extra stats and losing the tag of crew less tank and becoming a full tank instead.

This would help with one of the major issues the Profundity has, which is how vulnerable it has become with the P1 ruining stealth all together. If the Y-Wing could be “upgraded” from a crew less tank to a full tank with extra stats and an ability it would provide a boost the Profundity desperately needs.  Since it would become a Tank  whose taunt an Exec fleet could not completely ignore.

  • IIRC several of the Crewless ships already have a "growth" mechanic built into them.

If you read the kits some of them have a thing where they get XYZ bonus based on the #/power of the rest of the fleet.

So, in theory, if you take some crewed ship from G8 to G11 to R9 then the Crewless ships in that fleet will be growing by some portion of the crewed ships growth.

What they could do in future is have interchangeable crew for ships, so you could assign the Rebel Pilot to the Y-Wing or one of the X-Wings with some bonuses for whether the ship is crewed by specific characters or crewless.
