Cobb Vanth feedback: Need to be better in 3v3

I wanted to share some feedback on Cobb based on my experience with him so far. Overall, I'm a bit worried about him, and most of that worry comes from my experience against Hondo, with a bit of Jabba mixed in.

Before Cobb had his Datacron, beating Hondo was rough. If Hondo didn't have a Datacron of his own, my odds were around 50/50, maybe a bit better, and if he did, that dropped to something like 10%.

Cobb's Datacron improved things a lot, but I think that improvement actually exposes how much the team relies on Datacron to be able to win, and that becomes very obvious in 3v3.

In 3v3, the nature of the team (Cobb plus two mediocre-to-bad characters) just doesn't feel good. The omicron isn't fully active, and having two fewer allies makes killing a GL a lot harder, since it's mostly about raw damage. With Cobb, the easiest way to generate that damage is getting Alert on the whole team and spamming specials, which becomes way harder to pull off with the smaller squad.

Against Jabba specifically, the omicron does help you survive, but you struggle with actually killing him, aka good at surviving but bad at the one job that matters. Feels like an OG NS before the Merrin nerf at that point... But in the post Era of aniversary era, that isn't good enough for a Jabba.

For all these reasons, I feel Cobb needs more than what he currently has. As it stands, I fear he'll become a skippable character if he doesn't perform well in 3v3, which means he doesn't perform well in half of GAC, and that's a real problem when 3v3 already demands more teams to begin with. He ends up being a "luxury" pick for 5v5 that doesn't even guarantee a win. Kind of like Trench, if he has a good Datacron, he's kind of relevant, if not... Trench who?

While we have the Datacron, I think Cobb will feel useful. Please buff him so we don't end up with a Trench situation!

you can say that about so many teams nowadays. how often do you use Baylan Skoll with most JMK not being on defense anymore? would you use Finn Zorii if there's no datacrons? GAS?

at least Cobb Vanth has a shot at PKHO and Jabba. does trench beat any GLs? he is not a Trench situation

I believe someone said on reddit that trench with his omi can beat GLAT in TW but neither me nor any of my guildmates tested it(have him unlocked for like 2 years but didnt bother to relic since he is not amazing).

Idk why you think cobb vanth is not great in 3v3. Ofc the lineup may differ depending on team you facing but i think he still can do his magic. After this gac round we will see what people were using him against and in what lineup. I think he can still beat jabba in 3v3(my lineup guess would be cobb/cup/scavenger), pkho probably not(with his dc it is possible i think). Cobb is pretty decent team, if you underestimate him you might regret this. Wait till this gac round end and check his performance, then make some comments if it is disappoining or not

I use Baylan all the time. He's not just for beating JMK. His kit also has specific clauses against Rey (though I haven't tried him against Rey myself), Sith, and he dismantles Saw lead Rebel Fighter teams.

Cobb's problem, from what I've seen, is that his instakill doesn't prevent revives. I timed out vs Jabba (I used Cobb, CUP, Nebit) because it took so long to kill Boushh and Krrsantan that I didn't have time to kill the slug. If I could have used the instakill on Krrsantan right away and prevent his revive, I would have had enough time to kill Jabba. The slug was going down. My team needed another 30 seconds on auto to kill him. Alternatively, locked healing immunity would help.

It is true though that Cobb needs high relics, at least on himself, to be relevant in this matchup. And you need lucky RNG to have Jabba target CUP with his ult (can't die while Cobb is active).

  • As someone who has the core 3 Constables at r9,r10 and r8, its really not an issue that my cheap GL counter is only for 5v5. They are still a handy attack tool against tricky non-GL teams. Plenty of other non-GL counters can fill in, ones that don't necesserily work in 5s.

    TLDR: Swings and Roundabouts.
