Wouldn’t it make more sense for the new character to be Darth Vader (Anakin) than General Skywalker? Darth Vader (Anakin) would have to get the 501st tag because that’s who he led into the Jedi Temple...

How did he lost is rank?
anakin not lose rank, actually earned rank when general. when anakin was a general he did hard work and won the rank. but the main point. general anakin is between episodes 2 and 3
So basically you too say that in ep.3 he looses his rank
