Changes in the game / structure are often that final last little nudge for players getting fatigued anyway to hang it up. This happened with mods as well and I'm sure it will happen when the next big game mode is introduced.
I've quit the game a couple times already, and this was my experience. I was already sort of wanting to quit when the botched mods rollout happened, which became pre-crafting 2.0, and that was enough to push me over the edge.
The next time I quit was when I was mad that Thrawn was getting released BUT you needed to have farmed these then-mediocre toons that many of us didn't care about and few people had bothered getting. But you could have them all ready in time for Thrawn if you bought these new packs for $$$!
I think there are two common reasons: (1) players feeling disrespected, and (2) players feeling tired and discouraged that they won't be able to keep up with the next big rat race.
I think we've had a little of both lately. TB falls more in the latter category: to be competitive now, you need HRScout, HRSoldier, CHS, CLS (which those of us who didn't get him were feeling left behind about already), etc. It was yet another way to fall behind, and I think some guilds were booting people who didn't keep up. Then it turned out that to keep up, we needed a full 7* FO team. And a NS team. And a 4* new ewok. And probably a full 7* Resistance team. All while trying to catch up to CLS requirements. Eventually, it gets to a point where someone already on the edge might feel that they can't keep up anymore, so why bother.
Just my two cents.
