Basically whatever your preexisting opinion is you will find evidence to support it and ignore evidence against it on a subconscious level. Bet there was an equal amount of times the Old Ben with Evasion up dodged absolutely nothing. Don't remember those? Positive reinforcement.
The term you are looking for is confirmation bias.
Posititive reinforcment is when you give your wife candy every time she is nice to you in order to condition her to be nice to you more.
