Eclectic DCs are a fun idea, but...
Let's be honest. You probably tested these. The combinations of abilities and characters, you would have had to.
Moreover, you probably had in mind certain targets that you think will be vulnerable to these DCs. Maybe even reasonably powerful defensive squads. Cere? Malgus?
But the thing is that there are two problems that kill this idea:
- We have no idea what DCs are useful against what defenders (or alternatively which ones are good on defense). this means that instead of attacking successfully, we'll be pulling these toons together for a gamble. It will take at least 1 month for the community to get a good idea of where and how to use these. Given that they only last 4 months, that's a huge penalty.
- People boost toons as squads. The old toons of varying utility that you've chosen are likely to be lower relics. And hey, that's probably a feature to you, CG. You want everyone to upgrade every toon. But there aren't the resources to do that. And on top of that, we just had Relic Delta introduced, meaning that a) everyone is scrambling to boost toons that relied on debuffs and did their jobs well so that they can survive in the new environment against the AoEs coming from r8/r9 toons. That leaves little signal data to boost toons to the minimum qualifying relic tier. And b) even if the datacron is good, the random nature of the toons guarantees that they will be a low tier, and they will require investment just to allow the DC to function at all, but that, unfortunately, even if the DC is functioning, if you run across an opponent with the target team at high relics, your brand-new r5s will not succeed.
Before relic delta this idea might have been fun. Post relic delta asking us to form teams out of some of our most neglected toons to get 2-3 months use out of them is simply a waste of resources.
At minimum if you wanted to do this, you should have allowed early play testing or released your own game play videos showing how the DC could be used and against which teams it would win.
I buy targeted DCs every season. Or at least I have. I'm skipping this one.
