Pretty ridiculous that "Epic" characters like Malak and General Skywalker, who require an INSANE amount of resources, and multiple legendary characters to unlock, let alone gear, should then be stuck ...

It was never officially announced that all Epic confrontation characters would be 5 star unlock prior to the event.
In fact, I don't believe we knew for sure until the patch came and people looked through the notes to find out it was a 5 star unlock. Only to have CG confirm like 1 to 2 days prior to the event, after people found out on their own it wsa a 5 star unlock. a few days prior...
We were already **** in preparing. It was - a low blow to be honest. They knew no one would have invested heavily getting ready leading up to if they knew it was only going to be a 5 star unlock. And don't be naive thinking it wasn't intentional to hide that it was a 5 star unlock. That would have crippled the bottom line. I know, you know, and they sure as hell knew it. Don't play dumb.
And - you know i'm 45/85 and it sucks looking at a character that won't be ready for months...still... and the marquee character needed... this is a mess.
It seems to me that if you don’t know for sure and have to work off of some assumption, then the reasonable thing to assume would be that it will unlock in the same manner as the prior event of the same type.
