This is how I intended to use the term group think. And I say it, because it seems every complaint post says the same exact thing as if taken from talking points, with the goal of making changes to a game that changes I disagree with, even if I am alone in my dissent of the group.
So each issue is allowed to only have one poster claiming it as a problem? If 10 people have a problem with a particular car's steering wheel, and all complain - you would call it groupthink too?
In order to get any idea on how people are influenced, you need to know if the person complained because they independently arrived to the same conclusion, or they only followed others. You cannot possibly know that.
I know that I am not complaining. Where does that leave us then?
Your actual original post was complaining about complainers. How do you think your post is different from the posts of people it's aimed at?"hhooo;578397" wrote:
Productive, original threads don't seem to gain much traction. Be part of the solution.

Definately an original post! Nice job."leef;578450" wrote:

Is it group thinking, or is it pre-existings issue many people have come to the same conclusion on? People make all sorts of "original" complaints about the same issues, but they usually get merged to a mega thread, making it seem like everyone is flocking to the one place to complain in the same fashion; except when the largest P2W guild threatens to cut financial support.
When a problem is so common, forum vets/mods encourage people not to make new threads, but to search an existing one and add to it. That, and posts being deleted. So the forum community does not encourage original thoughts, and rarely ever has.
It's probably a bit of both. The forum has always been full of complaints, but after the mods update it's just ridiculous. Oppinions are contagious. Seeying people have the same issues with the game as you have is also encouraging to get more upset about it. Smaller shared issues get totally blown out of proportion.
Exactly.- Garbage in. Garbage out.
This thread serves less of a purpose than threads about the game albeit good or bad. "xanderxman;578557" wrote:
How is that group thought? Your complete dismissal of any complaint is also a form of group thought from those that can or choose to afford to pay to win. Shut down all those dirty F2P player peasants, right?
You offer no reason why my post is group thought and just dismiss it with a wave of your hand. How does that help this game move forward?
Where did I display hysteria in my post? Was it because I mentioned GW? Are you spenders having so much fun with your game that us peasants aren't allowed to even ask for the same experience?
Why is asking for content to work as advertised "group thought"? Do you have a degree in psychology that you can't get paid to use and feel the need to expound your ideas here?
Look, your post was geniune. What I don't understand is why you say everyone is leaving the game, and then use that as an excuse for failure by the devs, and they need to listen to you (even though you say listen to the player base, but since I am in the player base, and I don't say player base, but instead say you-don't speak for me) to somehow prevent players from leaving, and then on top of it all, the company somehow has to become a non-for-profit because making money is evil."Lianara;578799" wrote:

No, there wasn't a complaint there. Go back an reread it."Lianara;578758" wrote:
Also, if you believe the statements encouraging to stop spending is groupthink, what would you call - 'if you're unhappy just quit', that you just posted - how are the too different?
I didnt say "if you're unhappy just quit"

Doesnt it make alot more sence to just quit the game you arent enjoying anymore than feeling oppressed by something you actually choose to be a part of ? Or do they actually like the game, but just conform to the popular consensus and start activily complaining to fit in ?
There is a big difference.
If you want to call it anything - mob mentality is probably closer - both both groups 2 and 3 are guilty of it, including you and OP.
i'm fine with calling it mob mentality. Unlike the OP I actually do want some of the changes, that the players are suggesting, to happen. However i do agree with the OP that the constant complaining has a negative effect on the forum members. First of all, I assume everyone here joined the forum because they like the game. currently complaint threads are dominant on the forum, this will influence the people's oppinions about the game and they start to copy them, creating a snowball effect. Because of this, minor inconveniences, that wouldnt have changed someones overal gaming experience by much, turn into mayor issues. This isnt helping for the betterment of the game at all, and creates a very toxic atmosphere in the process.- Ok guys, I'm going to enjoy the rest of my Saturday... maybe grab a few beers. Hope you all enjoy it too. I'll talk to you later.

Do you think posts like OP's don't also contribute to toxic atmosphere? You think they're helpful to the community in some way? Should we have more posts attacking complainers?
The way you help community is address concerns (which could be both real and perceived) - i.e. when someone complains about OP Rey, droids, Dooku, etc - proper reaction is to either explain strategy for dealing with them, or just to stay out of conversation. Attacking people at that point only puts them on defensive and makes things worse - THAT is what creates a snowball effect. This situation is no different. Encouraging posts like OP will create even more division and negativity.
Concerning the snowball effect - while its a somewhat legitimate fear - there is no basis with which to believe that this has happened nor is it possible to prove. It's just as likely that every single person that posted complaining about the issues has independently arrived to the conclusion. I haven't posted anything related to the Mod fiasco because everything I would have said has already been said, so I had nothing to add. It doesn't mean that I didn't agree with many posts. Had I actually posted my thoughts how would anyone be able to tell if I independently arrived at them or was influenced by the forum?

To me, the only difference is passive tone, the meaning, while less belligerent, is the same - stating that people that are unhappy should rather walk away from the situation rather then continue getting angry about it. It's not a completely wrong argument, but everyone has a different tolerance for negativity, and it's quiet possible that some, who are currently unhappy about the game, are complaining because they want it to succeed (fight or flight, I guess?)"Burrito_Man;578349" wrote:
