Against my opponent today, i got a surprise at attack phase, he hasn't set squad defenses, only a fleet, Han's MF fleet (rebels), i couldn't get past it, and a few hours later, he cleaned my fields, i discussed on my guild discord and they agreed that this wasn't right, my suggestion is that even if one sets his fleet, at least one defensive squad should be set, if not, auto deployment.

He actually did you a favor.....if he had set his worst toons on D instead of leaving them empty, he would have gotten more banners. You get the clear banner for every section that is empty anyway. But he could have gotten more banners from setting defensive teams than you could have gotten from beating those teams. So you would have lost anyway even if he put garbage defenses up....you would have actually lost worse than you did. Unfortunately, the way this particular map is set up, ships have a disproportionate impact on the results. It's still lame what he did but that's not why you lost.

So if I’m reading this correctly, he won because you could not defeat the defenses he set?

Even if the other side cleared top at max efficiency, he would be down 1060 to 892. By not setting defense, the other side is giving OP an 168 banner headstart. Now, other side can still win by beating fleet (155 to conquer + 16-66 banners for a win) but the margin of error is small. Had the other side just placed barebone defense, he would have had a lot more margin to work with.But the current system allows you to do this and save ALL of your ground teams for O. If a forced D was required perhaps he would not have been able to clear on O so easily. Its clearly against the spirit of the game-mode and should not be allowed. If you don't fill a spot it should get auto-filled. So? You are at a disadvantage if you don't set defense. Even if you win every match by max banners, you are still down like 150 banners.

He only needed to set 1 team and was able to use all of his other teams for O and deprived the other guy the ability to play the game. This is clearly against the spirit of the mode and should be fixed.I don't know how being down 168 banner doesn't mean that he is at a disadvantage. That assume max banner wins...he could have easily lost a few matches, which would have taken him beyond the margin of error.Somehow setting chewy defense is okay but setting no defense is against the spirit of the game? It's a strategy, opposing party is basically conceding his territory in the belief that he can beat fleet and the top zone cleanly. Again, outcome would have been exactly the same regardless of whether opposing party did or did not set defense.

Banners don't matter unless you have at least one more than the other guy. Losing 1001-1000 is just the same as losing 1600-0.

Also..ships are stupid unless you can buy them up to 7*. Mine are so terrible that I don't even use them unless I have to. Pointless to try.

Well, since close to half your GP is based off your fleets, it’s probably important to have good fleets if you want to win GA. I mean, what happened was you smoked him in the squad section but weren’t able to clear his fleet while he cleared yours. Only thing that stinks about what he did was it kept you from the free gold for the battles. It in no way helped him win the overall match. He won because he had better fleets than you.

He simply hurt his own score. If he had set full defense of his weakest characters, he would have scored more.

While it's a garbage move, it wouldn't effect the outcome. If OP clears ships, he wins.

The opponent cost himself at least N x 26 points (the difference between the 90 points he would get for setting a defense and the maximum 64 you would get for beating him).

There isn't a lot of GA math where you can overcome clearing one less zone and still win.
