Please don't Strawman me; I'm interested in improving the system. Yes, I am a high Kyber player, but I am seriously worried about the new player experience. It clearly isn't right. Without the new players having a good introduction to the game mode, the game mode will die.
I don't agree with the 'everything's fine, they still win 50% of their games' argument. Some of those games are not within the spirit of intention, and that's the problem. The interactive experience.
However, unlike you I feel the ladder system (engine if you will) is sound. I don't think we need to ditch the engine and randomly replace it with something that will most likely be worse. Small tweaks will make massive differences. I feel that's what is needed half a dozen or so 'small tweaks' and it'll improve the interactive experience for a large percentage of the players.
CheeseEmperor0 wrote:Did you forget the fact that we have two shard type game players anyway with squad and fleet arena?
No I did not, and really they need to be gone. Well Squad Arena not really anymore as it has zero meaning. However, check the forums for the horror stories from arena shards. It's basically Lord of the Flies. If you're lucky, you'll get a good one, if not....then it is hell or you're literally frozen out of the game mode. Anything, is better than player run shards.
CheeseEmperor0 wrote:Also joining discords is optional
Not really. If the people running the shard want you on the discord, you're on the discord or you're frozen out of the shard. If the guys running the shard say you wear pink socks on Tuesdays.....you're taking pictures of your pink socks and uploading them to the discord chat. You're allowing the player base to decide the rules.
Also, if it's a shard, where's the dream of reaching the top? Do you really want to be stuck with the same group for eternity?
CheeseEmperor0 wrote:not explored too often by new players.
This isn't just about new players. Yes, a shard would be better for new players (than what they have now) for a little while. However, you'd be forcing shard play on everybody. Also, new players aren't new players for very long. Once you progress your view point will continually change and you experience different aspects of the game mode. At some point everybody that's doing well will be 'invited' to a discord chat.

This is the point you're not seeing my PoV. For me, the intending spirit is everything. Be that laws, how something works, how a gaming environment is intended is everything. I really don't think it's OK to day 'Meh they won, everything is OK'. There needs to be a competitive interaction. It's not fun gaming, it needs to go. However, it can go with the ladder system we have. The engine just needs a little fine tuning.
CheeseEmperor0 wrote:I do not care if you are “disappointed” in my response.
I'm disappointed in your short-sightedness. In the long run new players aren't new players. When you consider changes, you need to consider everyone. You'd win a lot in a shard (as long as you keep on the right side of those who will run it). However, the experience for most, and you eventually would be lousy. Outside of new players for a short period or newish players doing well for a short period, it has zero merit as an idea.
CheeseEmperor0 wrote:I am coming at this from the perspective of a brand new player. When I started playing GAC it sucked because of this problem.
But we've come up with ideas to fix things for new players, without burning the game mode to the ground for everybody else. There's a couple of easy fixes that won't affect anybody else and we can all go on with our lives. Safe in the knowledge that newer players are getting a better gaming experience.
If CG want to, they can fix the problem quite easily. We don't need to drastically change anything.
