GAC squish

New season, new squish. It's getting ridiculous. People are losing 100 and 200 points, some even more.

Shut the squish mechanism off: someone who consistently end up with a positive W/L record, even 5/4, should climb, not drop by 50 points. As simple as that.

It's came to the point that content creators are having a special video dedicated to that:

The idea of squish is to keep things in check.  Keep the divisions well populated and to stop players from getting too far ahead or too far behind.  Arguably, if a player is so far ahead of the division, they'll need a heavy squish.  The issue is, is that it doesn't seem to be uniform and there has been no communication on why the squish has got so heavy.  We just "Yah bro, it's WAI".  If it's WAI tell us why.  However, I very much doubt it's 'WAI' and more 'IWTTMTFIAWANSH'  (it will take too much to fix it and we are not sure how).

Can't do that.  Especially with leagues and divisions.  The squish is needed.

Well if everybody is getting squished evenly, then they will climb (through people).  However, as the squish is way out of whack at the moment...I guess we're all falling.

I don't know what they're doing.  They're aware of it and are doing nothing or explaining nothing.  The fact K3 is being squish 40-50 points-ish means that every Kyber division other than K4 is getting negatively squished.  K1 is getting squished extortionate amounts and dropping.  This isn't even remotely sustainable, so...what is happening and how is it WAI?

If it is WAI, tell us why!  That really isn't too much to ask.

So we at least agree about the most crucial aspect - the lack of transparency.

I know that the general idea is. I just disagree. Their manual interference is what caused it to get out of control.

Yes they can, and they should. The entire system is like a living thing, and will stabilise eventually. Maybe set a max possible score that cannot be surpassed, but that all.

Now, here's the thing - the definition of K1 is not "be among the top X%", but "have at least 3610 points". Therefore, even if everybody gets squished evenly, everybody will just drop from K1 evenly, and the amount of people in K1 will shrink, which is exactly what happens.

At the end of the day, as I already said, the system must follow the oldest rule in the book: win to climb, lose to drop. If you win and get dropped regardless, (not compared to others. Objectively!) it means the system is broken and the least you can do is stop the thing that breaks it

We also agree on the other crucial part — that

squish in Kyber (especially K1) is way out of control and not sustainable.

Well we don't know that, as we have no transparency.  All we're told is that it's WAI.  In all honesty I've lost total faith in they know what they're doing.  If it is WAI they're clueless but in all probability it is not WAI.  The only reason I can think of that it is WAI and was done deliberately is to remove the false accounts from K1, which it isn't doing.

Well, here we disagree.  Especially, if the number of players fluctuates.  To be honest, I don't see the need of leagues and divisions at all.  It just complicates things, especially league changes which disproportionate end of season changes.  This forces players to  move much further than their actual skill.

Well as we have discussed, there wasn't really a problem 6 months ago before this squish adjustment.  The whole idea of the eco-system is to maintain healthy sized divisions.  If squish isn't doing that, it's not working.  If players are squished towards K3, they're naturally move back towards where they were as the season progresses.  The fact it's not working correctly now highlights a problem we didn't have before...with a well working squish.

I don't really see a well working squish without leagues or divisions being big enough to get worked up about.

We need the 'illusion' of continually climbing.  What we actually need a stable and surviving environment that stays constant.  If players feel disillusioned because of unfair losses of Skill Points, then it isn't working.

If they were to remove squish, then the whole thing would need a radical re-think.  Maybe, that's possible, but it would need a lot more work and a lot more management (due to fluxes of player numbers and maintaining stability across the leagues).  I don't think there is any universe where 'increasing the management' fits with their agenda; they have big green rabbits to make!

Having been squished again from any hope of reaching K1 I must go 6-3 to gain any ground on the number of points I was squished. That's a steep ask considering I'm getting 9 tough opponents mid-K2.

If you look at the top few players in K1 they're facing one equal matchup every round and the other 2 are against accounts with less than 10m GP. Those small accounts are also facing each other at the top of K1 and coming out with easy winning season records maintaining the ranking. That can't be WAI. Anyone saying it is is gaslighting us.

The top of the board has no integrity. The players up there don't face real competition.

The Outliers here are accounts that have been moved up due to the squish.

CG is content with this cause they get to not give away useful crystals to competitive players who end up buying stuff instead while they ignore the issue.

Totally agreed!  So, how can that be WAI?  I have now been demoted to mid K3 and it's exactly the same for me (needing to go 6-3/5-4), even thought I'm in the division that I'm supposed to be squished towards!

Ahhh no, they're not pretending this part is WAI.  It's the amount we're being squished in Kyber that bug reports (on the forums) are bouncing back as WAI.  The false Kyber accounts (so I have heard) they've quietly acknowledged as a bug, but have no idea why it is happening or how to fix it (cheaply).

It's not a nice situation for nearly all those involved.  The top 2 'real' players don't like it.  One is a streamer and cannot stream a competitive match.  The other values their GAC dearly and is quite sad about the situation (so I have been told).  They want competitive matches.  Once these false accounts do start to fall...well that's months of misery until they're where they should be.

That's an interesting term 'outlier account'.  The page looks like .gg is that what they're called there?

I don't think anybody knows exactly why or how it is happening.  We do know that it started happening when they made changes to the squish.  As to why it's happening...I (like they) have no idea.  I imagine it has something to do with the initial settings of GAC and where we were placed using our GP.  The GP settings of then are way different compared to the average GP of a league/division now.

    wrylac77 wrote:

I honestly don't think this is the case.  The 'real' players on that list probably care very little about crystals.  I think the opposite, that's it's crazy that CG aren't fixing this for the Kraken spenders!  They spend a small fortune on the game, in-game earned crystals would barely replace a broken krakentacle!  It's more lethargy and ignorance rather than malicious intent by CG (in my opinion).

I'd wager if you asked all the real players on that list (I'm pretty sure the top 2 anyway) whether they'd prefer automatic crystals or a competitive GAC with a deduction in earned crystals, they'd go for the latter.  I mean...what's the point flexing your muscles when there's nobody real to flex your muscles to?
