It actually shouldn't pigeon-hole you into repeatedly clicking through each gear slot. It does consolidate the enhancements needed in order to create the gear you want or need to equip to your toon unless you're missing something somewhere along the line and have to do at least some type of grind for it in which case, it's clearly straightforward what options you have to gain the item>enhancements>gear you need to equip.
