General Discussion?

So I'm curious to know, what exactly is the criteria for a General Discussion?

A question about Thrawn will be moved to characters and strategies, a guild related question will be moved there?

How do the Guild Request threads last longer in General when there is a category for them?

I mentioned in another thread that they could rename General Discussion to Current Discussion, and all new threads are left there for say a week so people can see what everyone is thinking.

So lets have a chat about what makes a discussion, General.
  • I just use the "DISCUSSIONS" link at the top of the page, and I see everything posted. Makes the organization of subforums irrelevant (in a good way). And I know you see a ton of guild recruitment threads that way, but it's super easy to just scroll past all those.

personally i don't like how the subforums are set up. GW, one of the main game modes and hot topic since day one, is under feedback for example (making it a sub sub forum), but the yoda event has it's own subforum. That just doesn't make sence to me. Same thing with ships. Also, why are there 2 subforums about characters? It's just confusing and not user friendly imo.
If it were up to me i'd give the whole forum a make-over. Haven't really given it alot of thought, but there's alot of room for improvement as far as userfriendlyness. I would have given it some more thought if i didn't think it was futile to make suggestions.
Anyway, i don't envy the mods. It seems like alot of ungratefull work that they (afaik) don't get compensated for. While i've been uphappy with how the mods handled certain situations that i was part of, i'm still glad they are here to moderate. People with a voice and annonimity often don't make for the most civil participants in discussions, specially if there are thousands of them.

The Yoda section under Events is "new". From what we are being told changes are coming to make things easier to navigate and use. and generally speaking less subs, but this will take time. One step at a time and we will get there.

and its ok we can take it. thanks.

Moving threads really is meaningless if people use the recent discussions section, But what bothers me is when threads are closed because, 1. the mod/dev THINKS the problem is solved(which was not true about people being autokicked from guilds) 2. The topic is closed and archived cause its related to a bug(When the thread was to have a conversation about the bug and how people deal with it, not to report it as I could care less about reporting bugs to a company that refuses to work on bugs and glitches that have been around 1+ years).

I get the idea to close threads when they get extremely toxic or its a necro that is irrelevant at this time, But no other threads should be closed. Whats the point of a forum? to discuss the game. So dont close threads where people are having an active discussion. Its bananas

Topics being closed vs bugs and issues is different.

Bugs and issues need to be reported to the <> because that is where they are being handled now as per <>. We are not closing it because we think it is resolved, we have no control over that site and it need to get there to be addressed. Bugs and issues was archived and any post there is locked from commenting. Even from us. So we post the correct location for the OP to go and move it there because it is a bug and issue and we want people to see the correct information on how to get it dealt with.

    @PiffGuru

An open discussion on a site that is not reviewed by the people who can fix these issues isn't really necessary, because all it will do is fuel a fire with baseless accusations like the one you made. Please refrain from doing that, I would like this conversation to stay open. (They do care, and work on a lot of things.)

And when I make a thread about a bug like I said the auto kicking from guild issue, which I believe was before the change of how bugs are being reported, I get a message that the thread was closed because it was fixed... well it wasnt fixed as I had 2 people days after the fix that got auto kicked.. Well guess what, my thread was closed so I cant even comment there and say hey, its not fixed btw cause im still having issues. Instead Id have to make a whole new thread that will likely be closed again.. It just seemed counterproductive.

And Kyno I respect the hell out of you for all the time you put into this but exactly what part of what I said was "baseless"? My language may have been a bit harsh for someone with thin skin but it is in no way inaccurate. For example, since the game came out talia has had glitches with her attacks animation. Still not fixed..

Having an open discussion is actually very useful and important as every issue obviously cant be addressed by devs in a "timely" manner. A generic example of this usefulness goes like this..

I have an issue with a microsoft game, I call microsoft and get the run around for days, Given no way to fix said problem. So I go online to a forum, talk to a few community members about the issue and find that others have figured a workaround to the issue. So instead of waiting 6 months for microsoft to get around to it, I can go on with my life. This example has been repeated by me in many aspects not just games but purchasing products, working on electronics etc.

Im on this site constantly and try to contribute where I can but there are absolutely flaws with how things are done here in my opinion.

Sorry to OP for slight change in discussion here

A new topic with a new times stamp is actually more helpful when looking at an issue that comes back after a fix. (just a thought) The person closing the thread doesn't know the issue is not resolved. so its a hard thing to manage, but it is the way it is.

I messaged you about this no need to discuss this here. but i was referencing your use of the word refuse. They have never made any statement to say they refuse to work on bugs and issues and in most updates we see a list of things that were fixed. but we can talk.

And that conversation could lead someone to figure out the issue quicker and get it resolved for everyone. but not if that conversation happens in a location that no one is looking. you can post on bugs and issues on the <> site and have your discussion there.
