You wait until it stops being unfarmable. Yes, it sucks some people got it ahead of time, they should probably have waited until the new method was implemented before taking the old one away and leave everyone on even grounds of gearing options.
But it's a minor advantage.
It's a pretty major advantage actually. Considering that some of the additional tiers of gear that open up (mainly tier 9 for Rey and Leia) allow for additional speed, pushing both characters into speed ratings that change certain dynamics. For instance, a full Gear 9 Rey/Leia will win the "coin flip" that occurs in a character mirror match. Gear 9 Rey also moves at a higher speed than her traditional counter, GS. This isn't even considering the extra speed, physical damage, and special damage that the characters get at those gear levels.
Or consider how Tier 9 QGJ has 143 speed, which suddenly puts him in non-leader speed ranges equal to gear 8 Rey and faster than Gear 8s Poggle and Poe.
It's a pretty significant advantage since we all play with the exact same stat characters, except for a the lucky players who pre-crafted (whenever they did. I know some players did it well before patch notes, so I specify that it could be whenever they did).
