I quit. So long and thanks for all the fish.

A week ago I woke up in the middle of the night in considerable pain. My whole upper chest, both shoulders, arms and hands all ached. Within a day I reached the inescapable conclusion that playing the game too much had contributed to my predicament and even minimal interaction exacerbated it. And a day later I had quit my guild and uninstalled.

When I started playing SWGoH six years ago it was a fun diversion. Sure, some events could take time but the main recurring time sink was the daily arena climbs. Some players even complained that there wasn't enough going on.
There was no GAC, no Conquest, no Galactic Challenges.

These days there is always some recurring event active and often multiple simultaneously.
Fleet arena climb is still active daily
GAC is active 3/4 of the time
Conquest is active 1/2 the time and has become a numbing grind
TW involves more battles than it used to
TB is at least as involved as it ever was
Galactic Challenges pop up twice a week and some of them are really annoying / time consuming
The new raids are active half the week and you can no longer ignore them because the guild needs every player to participate every raid.

The game places an endless stream of demands on its players. It has ceased to be a fun hobby and has become more like a second job. This is not sustainable. It grinds players down until eventually they quit. I have seen a lot of that in the last year. Engagement metrics may be good for bean counters but they are bad for players.

  • It never occurred to me to make a farewell thread, though honestly it wouldn't be a bad idea if I did. I'm not Ahnald or anything like him, but because of 50 Shards, someone would eventually notice I was gone. Rath Tarr may very well be in the same situation in their SWGOH sub communities. Might as well take a minute to let folks know what's going on for you. Even if some people won't care, some will. I've interacted with Rath Tarr enough that I would have noticed that they were gone, eventually. We're not friends, exactly, but neither is this forum a particularly large community.
  • If it's causing you more stress than the fun it provides, it's time to either walk away or change your priorities in-game. There have been times in the last several years that I've had to put the game on 'maintenance mode' - minimal effort - I would do my dailies, do my shard farms, and deploy in TB and that was about it. I could get away with that because casual guild. Whether you reduce your screen time or walk away entirely, your health should come first.

So long Rath_Tarr. Maybe we'll see you back here again one day - if not, best of luck to you.

Rath, if you can stay away congrats to you. I quit for six months and returned. Regret the time off as Ben Solo is at 220/330 shards and the Inquisitor ship is like 110/330.

When I returned I did make a few promises to myself. The only ones I can keep is to not stress about getting red crate for Conquest and the Galactic Challenges. For the latter, as long as I get a crate with two omis, I call it good.

Find ways to eleviate the stress and time demands if you stick around. If you do quit, I hope you fill the time with something enjoyable and meaningful.

I quit for 2 years. I don’t regret the time off because I came back with a healthier mindset and 2 LSB let me catch up a majority of what I missed those 2 years. It’s hard to put down for good though. Sounds like OP needs a big break at least.
  • I never got any fish. Are they kippers?

But honestly, if the game is playing you, rather than you playing the game, it's time to make a change - Quitting or reprioritizing your efforts.

    Best of luck.

I nearly quit about a week ago when I was feeling unwell.
I've dropped TW and will do minimal on conquest.

Getting the red crate in conquest each time is the real time sink and isn't enjoyable.
  • You don't really need to get red chest.

Even if you want to avoid proving grounds altogether, you can unlock any conquest characters in 6 conquest without ever getting a red chest.

I still get it, but it's definitely what I would cut back if I was looking to.
