Idea - “hidden”, story-wise combo skills to help forgotten characters
Hi all, just wanted to share an idea that came to my mind recently.
WALL OF TEXT INCOMING.
Statement(s):
We all know how “unbalanced” the force is towards LS right now (I mean, just today the 3/50 top teams in my arena were LS...);
We also know (strongly suspect) that a DS rebalance is on its way, hopefully very soon;
It is a fact that most meta teams are made of “random” characters, mashed together in a lore-wise aberration just because they are strong (well, legit...) and combo well.
NOW.
What if some sort of heavily story-driven combo skills were introduced, to bring the synergy mechanics to another level?
What if those skills only became unlocked (and available during combat) when 2 or more story-bound characters are actually teamed together (with stronger skills the more synergic characters involved)?
What if such skills were somewhat “hidden” from the characters’ profiles and instead collected on a separate section, as soon as they are discovered (so that one may plan the teams accordingly)?
Example: in terms of lore, palpatine and vader interact very much in the old trilogy. Game-wise, they should get a rework, of course.... but why not adding a special skill, which becomes unlocked when they are in team together? Some kind of super DS shenanigans that do crazy stuff! That would draw people’s interest in pairing them together, even more than because of their respective leader skills. Another great pairing would be GK and JKA (the “brothers” bond they shared... until the higher ground xD), or Luke farmboy and Old Ben (the mentor and the student).
These combo skills may also involve greatly opposing toons, like grandmaster yoda and sidious! That would be interesting too...
Also, the activation cost of such skills should obviously be “unconventional”. What about: 1) you need both characters to be active; 2) the first acting toon activates the skill, prepping it for the second toon. The second, as its turn comes, may then release it (making the skill a one-two move that forces you to sacrifice the turn of the first toon to prepare for a stronger attack later on).
This might revamp some old and unused characters in a new way, different from the “let’s rework the skills” strategy. Also, it lets SW lore passionate players (like me xD) get geater satisfaction in playing their favourite toons.
Having to play the same few characters just because they are strong, and not because you really like them... IMHO is a bit boring.
That said, GIVE US REVAN (hk-47 combo skill, oh yes)!!
...sorry, couldn’t stop myself.
Let me know what you guys think! :)
P.S.: For those that wondered, the idea is inspired by combo skills that are present in Atlus’ Persona 3 PS game (and others from Atlus as well, like Digital Devil Saga).
