The bottleneck is the point. It's not insurmountable if you don't pay - it just takes time. If you buy the kyros or the crystals to buy them with then it goes much faster. The bottleneck is how CG makes money on the game. People who don't want to wait pay for the gear. As a result, people that don't want to pay still have a game to play while they're waiting on the gear.
