If simply interacting with JKL makes you a Rebel, I can’t wait to see Jabba added with a Rebel tag.

Do you honestly think Luke went willingly to the Death Star II as a Rebel? He went as a Jedi to turn Vader back to the light, not ignite the spark of rebellion in some oppressed Imperial planet. Luke stopped being a Rebel when he left the Ewok camp, in my opinion.

Swgoh characters are snapshots of movie chars at a certain time. For example we have Luke when he was a farm boy and when he was commander luke. Same for Rey Han etc

Then faction tags don't matter at all by that reasoning. If you can mingle up your teams any way - what's the point?

If you are going to introduce faction tags and other tags based on lore of the franchise to create synergies etc, then stay true to it, instead of picking and choosing as it clearly irritates and upsets at least some of your player base.

I guess I am saying that maybe toons should be consistent and less disgruntled players is better.

the player base is huge, so one set being happy doesn't mean everyone is. I also think that a larger portion of the player base would be way happier with game balance over directly following lore.

faction tags are meaning full, they are not given for no reason (they have some semblance of lore), they just can't give out every tag a character could be for many reasons, some being balance of in game combat. others are as they have explained a snap shot in time of what the character would have identified as. they also have different version of characters and each in its own time may have identified as one thing vs another.

The current setup gives a fair amount of flexibility, but also allows certain teams or factions to function better than if you broke them up and mixed/matched.

I understand and agree with everything you have said.

However, toons like 3P0 and R2 literally have "catch-all" tags.

While Jedi Luke is a powerhouse toon for Jedi toons, he is limited as a lot of his synergies exclude Old Republic Jedi, as it would be too much of an advantage in regard to game and combat "balance" as you put it. Therefore no reason the sort of same limitations could not be applied to certain "Rebel" faction toons.

Therefore game balance and lore can co-exist, I guess you could say finding that "balance" between them is what is the issue. That way everyone can be happy with following lore as well as game balance. Win/Win.

absolutely, and those toons are utility toons.

correct, they could have made his kit longer and more complicated, but they didn't. the more they do that the more they can run into balance issues in the future too. again, balance.

no one has said they couldn't give him the tag, just that there are reasons they didn't. and no everyone would not be happy, thats the other long standing issue when you have a large player base. its always a win/lose/rock/paper/scissor/Spock/gryffindor kind of situation.
