I think they didn't make as much $ on jango as they thought they would, so they pushed up this revan event to try to make more off of it.

Revan is in no way a "cash grab" as people keep saying. Have you not seen all the posts about people that would have spent to get the unlock this time, but won't spend because they can't make 7*? By putting the unlock at 7* CG is effectively cutting off a large portion of potential revenue. Not everything CG does is purely for money.

Revan is very difficult to obtain. You either had to whale out and 7* the OR folks right away, or you had to plan and hoard for months to be ready, and even then you probably have to spend some money.

Given the fact that revan is quite difficult to obtain, you'd want him to be rather OP if you're able/willing to get him, but you don't want him to be that OP if you can't/aren't willing to get him.
Personally i want him to be rather OP eventhough i'm not going to get him. On the other hand i do not want to only play vs revan once players like myself are finally able to also get him. So slightly better than traya would be ideal imo. Unfortunately that's probably too weak or too OP for others depending on their perspective.

Yes, they can get him right.

If you can’t get him due to monetary restraints, lack of time, foresight, resource management, or whatever then I don’t see how you can complain all that much. Something put behind any kind of wall should be more on the OP side than beatable side. If I don’t get him and I get kicked around in arena for 4-6 months then that’s on me. That probably is not a popular opinion but you know what? I don’t care. People cannot have everything right away. Get over it.

Similarly released toons changed the game in some way shape or form. Thrawn was meta changing in arena and fleet arena. CLS was meta changing when he came out and he made the rancor raid insanely easy. JTR was not as meta changing as the other two but she provided a good alternative to any other meta, and is pretty important in TW/TB.

Speaking of which, I can’t wait until Revan is in platoons. The amount of hate unleashed in these forums will be astronomical and comical.

Either that or they are finally hearing all of the power creep comments and realize they are shooting themselves in the foot as far as longevity of the game. Who am I kidding hah?...jokes.

Acquiring Revan based on current requirements is not difficult. However, it is difficult to do the first time he is released. I don't think he needs to be OP because he is difficult to acquire the first time around. Almost anyone should be able to get him by the time he comes around a second time and I don't think we need every meta in the game to be dominated by a fairly easy to acquire toon. We need to think big picture, not just for the next 2 months. CLS was much harder to get and was deservedly OP for the time. Traya is hard to get and is powerful as she should be. Chewie and Thrawn had events that we extremely challenging even with the proper characters and are also strong options.

See this is a common opinion amongst the 'prepared' masses. That players in my bracket screwed up by not doing... well by not doing 'whatever' and that players like me must be angry because we can't get him on the first try.

Except that's not what was upsetting about this at all for people like me. I won't get him first drop because CG priced me out. That's fine -- I won't die. I'll be fine and I will get him someday.

What upsets me is that this is a clear signal of a change in how CG views players like me. I've been able to prepared and reasonably think ahead and spend resources for three years. I've been able to get nearly everything this way. I got Palp and Yoda on second pass. I got Thrawn at 6* on first pass. I got CLS with minor spend. I got BB-8 at 7* on first pass. I got JTR with a reasonable spend. I was only late on Chimaera. I've always been willing to spend at a certain threshhold, and I certainly was here too. But this time -- for whatever reason (be it ignorance, foolishness, malice, calculated decision, whatever) CG decided that they don't want *my* money -- so they can't have it.

Everything has always been structured so that it's obtainable with forethought and planning, and that the target is often just slightly beyond what players like me can do - encouraging us to take a little extra jump. This event is different and it's such a clear signal that I'm not in their sights anymore. That their strategy now excludes me as a primary customer.

Part of what I always loved about SWGOH was that it was not nearly as abusive with exclusivity as other mobile games of its ilk. That looks like its maybe just changed. Where it lands I dunno -- but I do know that if CG decides that it doesn't want *my* money anymore, that they aren't going to get any of it.

Insanely OP please. Give me 4 months advantage for my bucks

i can agree with the sentiment of your comment to a degree, but if revan is the start of this game becomming pay to win rather than pay to play, it's probably not such a good thing. I'm not too worried about that happening though.
As for unpopular opinions, i really don't care if some players forked over 400 bucks or more for a toon and it turns out said toon sucks in arena. It was their choice to buy the character.

I am waiting for one of the mods to put out his post. He did the math with a few variations on the farming strategy and the cost is about 800 crystals a day. That is with no spending how anyone could have gotten ready for revan in time (to 7*, no accounting for gear).

While this is a fairly large budget, its not out of the realm for F2P, and with any decent hoard that daily number drops to a more reasonable number.

So no, this is not a move to P2W. P2W would imply you can only get it for cash money. Ever since they broke away from locked aurodium packs unless you spent a certain amount of money, there has been nothing in this game only achievable by $$. Just time (or hoarding).

I started farming OR as soon as they became farmable. I’m still way behind. If I get them done then I get them done. If I don’t, so be it. I got kicked around in arena when thrawn came around. I didn’t get him the first time and I was okay with that.

I’ve been around just as long as you and had a lot of the same experiences. I guess the difference is, I think if people do pay or are prepared then they have that right to have a toon that’s pretty amazing. I’ll figure out the counter. I always have and always will.

Players not getting their money’s worth has happened. A lot. However, I think part of this discussion involves this situation being a bit different than most others. For instance, a lot of people had to pay to get Phoenix toons farmed fast. Imagine how mad they would have been had thrawn been a terrible toon. For a lot of those people who payed, thrawn is still a good investment. I think Revan and OR toons fall into that category.
