- LordDirtNew TravelerI just find it ridiculous that a Jedi like Obi-wan would act the way he is. Way out of character and like I said, people had a huge issue with Luke and none with Ben. This series isn't within Ben's character at all.
- DrStewartHSeasoned NewcomerI think a lot of us are struggling with the idea that until 3 weeks ago we pretty much all viewed Obi Wan as one of the greatest most powerful Jedi ever and its hard to see him in the current state. Even though 10 years has lapsed for him no time has really transpired in our minds and we expect him to be a total B.A. I understand its a plot point and may be the real enemy he has to overcome and I'm really hopeful they handle this the right way.
This isn't like playing with Rey and Kylo where we dont have a history, this is two of the most important/iconic characters in the entire SW universe and it needs to be handled correctly while remaining true to the characters, their history and their relationship. - MasterSeedyRising Ace
headcannon
@Ultra
I think you mean "headcanon", but I have to admit your word conjures entertaining images...
As for the episode, I'm just going to come out and say it:
Vader should have never been on that planet and should never have met Kenobi while Kenobi is in this shape. If you want to portray Kenobi as cut-off from the force, fine. What you do is have him lose a fight with 3rd Sister. Anyone can lose a fight to Darth Vader, he's frickin' VADER, people. Showing Kenobi losing a fight to 3rd Sister says more about his pitiful state than losing a battle with Vader could, and if you had Kenobi fighting a lesser opponent, he could make a better showing, still get his tuchus kicked, and there would be far more dramatic tension along the way. With Vader so completely outclassing Kenobi, there's no tension at all: Vader's not going to lose the fight, and Kenobi isn't going to be able to save himself, but someone else is going to save Kenobi b/c we know that Kenobi has to be alive on the Death Star in a few years.
Now, Leia can't do it, b/c if she did it would reveal her force powers (a 10-year old with no force powers couldn't save Kenobi in that spot) and there's only one other person on the planet who has shown any willingness to help.
And to top it all off this completely ruins the scene in Ep4 where Vader specifically says,I've been waiting for you, Obi-Wan. We meet again, at last. The circle is now complete. When I left you I was but the learner. Now I am the master.
Except right now it's completely clear that Vader is the master and Kenobi isn't teaching him anything.
Now, if you had to have Vader on the mining planet to have an opponent who could defeat Kenobi, then okay. You have to have Vader present.
But as I said, you don't need to have Vader present. Losing a battle to 3rd Sister says just as much or more about the state of Kenobi's relationship to the force AND it provides an opportunity for 3rd Sister's characterization to develop.
Putting Vader on that planet was a horrible decision by the writers/director. There's no excuse for it. None. It fails in every way, and makes A New Hope worse for having taken place.
Garbage. - ^^^
Which makes me think Kenobi will.face down Vader again because there's no way in ANH that Vader drops the "you were the master" line based on the total mismatch we saw in Ep 3 of Kenobi. - NotRealUltraSeasoned Newcomer

That right there is why they should have never met. Disney can't get any thing right but people will make excuses for them.
i swear if disney made OT people would start harping on that quote, saying in episode 3 obi-wan left vader not the other way around, and the episode 4 is ruined
There are 3 more episodes, they will meet each other again, its not the end of the series - LordDirtNew Traveler

How can Vader go back to being the learner?

One other seemingly minor thing that bugged the crap out of me. The storm troopers on the new planet all had dirty beat up armor. We never saw that in the original trilogy. They always had pristine gleaming armor. In fact, Vader’s personal guard stands out when they show up because they are so pristine. The dirty worn armor was used in Mando to show how far the Empire has fallen. To have it in this series just feels wrong. And now there’s suddenly female storm troopers?? It’s jarring when you make those kinds of changes just for political correctness sake. And can they please, please teach the storm troopers to march in step and in a line…. The OG movies understood that their precision and uniformity are what made them menacing.
I knew Star Wars fans could complain about anything but this is the weirdest complain yet. Oh no the storm troopers are dirty!"LordDirt;c-2364178" wrote:

People like you just enjoy complaining about everything . First you complain about kenobi being weak and now your going to complain when he redeems himself at the end of the show. If your going to take that quote so seriously, why did you bother watch these episodes in the first place?. Stop watching if your going to whine about everything."LordDirt;c-2364150" wrote:

There was no need to make Obi-Wan weak and forget how to do anything in ten years. He is 48 years old not 68. He was a Jedi for 26 years and was one of the best ever.
Hes a broken man
Hes been hiding cut off from the force for 10 years.
Hes scared and in shock that anakin is alive and B... that hes ruthlessly killing villagers for no reason other than to toy with his emotions.
This is obi wan at his lowest point and being completely blind sided.
Keep in mind he wasnt having an easy time with the spice guys in that hallway either
But I thought "everyone" hated Luke when he did the same. Why the change of heart? Why would Obi-Wan change that much in ten years? Why would he of all people turn against the Force? Talk about not fitting a character. The guy watches his Master die in front of him, watches his girl Satine die, watches Padme die, watched Cody and his Clone troopers turn on him, but has a huge issue when his Padawan turns on him? He has a mission to watch over Luke and he wouldn't let his skills diminish and possibly get Luke killed. Plus he wanted to train Luke so why would he still not be training himself?
You did see the conflict he had right? Hes haunted by what happened. Hes scared. Hes clouded, aka cant talk to his late master.
He wants to train Luke, but hes in no condition to do it. Thats clear in his actions and his routine in episode 1 and his lack of skill in episode 2.
What were you expecting. I was surprised he light his saber honestly.
I was expecting someone like in the Kenobi book. A guy who still believes in himself and the cause and who is willing to still help others.
Rescuing Lea doesn’t qualify as helping others? His state of weakness is exaggerated a bit, but I don’t expect him to be the same guy after Revenge of the sith and not using a lightsaber for ten years. He will make a comeback- LordDirtNew Traveler

He should have never met DV. You could still have this show without them facing off. Always have DV one step behind Ben as he is running throughout the galaxy. Have DV like a horror movie character, having a lot of suspense built around the scenes. Have Ben take out a few Inquisitors that aren't in Rebels and finish with him safe back on Tatooine watching over Luke and DV being frustrated at losing him and sending out more BH and Inquisitors. You could even have Reva be redeemed and die fighting DV as Ben escapes.
