Luke is a pilot too

Luke: I used to bullseye womp rats in my T-16 back home. They're not much bigger than two meters. Let's get him the ship he deserves!!!

No landspeeders in space. Luke must graduate from farmer status before he can get an X-Wing pilot's license.

They've said numerous times it's all holotable simulations, so it's not out of the cards. Besides, who wouldn't want to see a T-16 in space shooting down TIE's, lol.
