Ok I finally watched the 5th episode of the mandalorian season 2, and frankly, I'm dissapointed (not too much but definatly dissapointed).
Before you start to raise the pitchforks and tourches, wait, hear me out:
Anakin Skywalker (pre mustafar) is cannonically the most giftedwith the most potential Jedi in history.
However, he never reached his potential. In fact, Obi OWan, who did not even had half of Anakin's potential, was able to match him and even beat him on mustafar.
Why?
Because Anakin had so much potential and raw power, he never felt the need to develop his skill too much. Kenobi on the other hand, spelt sweat and blood all the way and develop his talent.
Same way as in swgoh there could be dumb whale who just brute force everything could be beaten by a player with far lower gp, who use his toons smartly.
In the releam of the series it's like baby yoda (or Grugo) had so much potential but practically his all job in the first 4 episodes of the second season is "being cute".
What I'm trying to say is this episode had so much potential and instead of really develop this potentiall, the directors preffered just brute force most of the time without really reached the potential abd do something really special.
There were too many little (or not little) detailes missing.
Now I gave you the theme of my argumant, allow me to elaborate:
1. First, Thrawn. I love how they only mention him. Did'nt elaborate. That's good- you don't need to give all at the start, and that leave plenty of room and flexibility for the future. I will say that it's less a surprise since every person who watch Rebels knew he isn't dead, and we always knew we'll come back to him someday. I still claim this is great they mentioned him in the episode, just ,aybe not the "wow" they may hoped to achieve.
2. Tyhton. This is something I personally even more excited of than the mentioning of Thrawn. Tython, the birthplace of the Jedi finally reached the screen. But reach there only to "choose its path" and send a force beacon so if there will be a Jedi nearby he might pick up the baby and train him?! Girl, you just said Grogu is unfit to be trained because he is too attached to mando and to the horrors of his past. So if you say someone else can train him better explain why (let it be "I have a different mission", "I am no Jedi" or something else), and if we mentioned "I am no Jedi", where was that line in the episode. It is not just an easter egg or a reference- it is a crucial info relevant to her not taking Grogu, and cllearify things to Mando.
Furtheremore, it's year 9 ABY. Luke Skywalker just started to think about training a new Jedi generation (he took Ben Solo as an apprentice by 15 ABY btw). Are you telling me Ahsoka was blind and did not know about Luke??
3. Ahsoka said she need Mando's help, but she didn't really need it by the look of things. If you tell me she need his help awesome, just show how he actual help her. How he do something she herself cannot.
4. Ahsoka's fighting. If you can see in most of her fighting in the episode, we don't see her "tradmark moves". In fact we mostly see her swinging her lightsaber in a way a regular person will do. No technique, no finest, no acrobatics, just hack & slash. It's only about 10 years after "Rebels" and we all know how she kicked ass there. And don't tell me "It's different because it's not animate- most of her moves does not require too much and if in CW at the battle between Ahsoka & Maul, the directors did the battle with real actors and only animate it later- we know it is possible to do actual choreography.
5. Ahsoka Tano. Anakin Skywalker's padawan, the one who faced Maul in her teens, the one who single handedly beated 2 inquisitors simultaneously, the one who face Darth frikking Vader, will have any difficulty defeating that empire Lady. I don't care how much Thrawn trained her- Ahsoka was trained by Anakin, and by far was the better dualist. The directors could make it like the Sidious vs Maul & Savage, where it was clear Sidious was just playing with them most of the time, but no, not just Ahsoka show some hardship- she actually lost one of her lightsaber during the battle. And again, it was only 10 years after "Rebels". Ahsoka did not hid herself in a desert where that excelerate her aging and did not gave her any actual practice- Ahsoka was active!!.
I will say it was good episode, but dissapointing one, because it could have been so much more than just good- it could've been the best!
The directors did not produce even third than what they could from this episode. They just "brute force" with it's potential, and that what's bummed me a bit
