I think the biggest problem is not that they've ignored f2p (lol, come on), but they've basically ignored everyone not willing to whale out.
There are players who would spend to get one toon to 7* or finish off another, but the sheer amount of money being asked to get all 5 to 7* in this time frame must be cutting off people who are actually willing to open their wallets. How's that smart?
