Mini-whale backing off from SWGOH
For context, I've been spending between $70-$100/month on the game for the last year or so.
But these changes are too much. I get the value a de facto subscription model provides to EA. I get that Marquee toons are where EA makes the most money. I get all of that. But adding more of those WHILE eliminating significant free value to the players to FORCE additional spend is too much. The game was already becoming less fun with the time sink it had become, and I refuse to spend that much more they are requiring just to maintain my place in GAC, etc.
I like the new streamlining efforts, but that streamlining came at too great of a cost: (1) too many new marquee characters rolled out too fast which requires players to get them just to remain relevant and to qualify for benefits we previously were just given, (2) the cost of now even more packs just to gear up/relic/zeta/mod those characters quickly, (3) a loss of free resources gained from monthly events that required considerable investment but now just being sunset (while forcing us to spend even more just to get back to a base level again), and (4) now a subscription model just to qualify for benefits that were existing? I'm also pretty salty that I completed SLKR 3 months before that lightspeed bundle and JML just 8 months before that lightspeed bundle. What is the point of farming anything at this point? Add to this that the player friendly changes (simable battles) aren't even available yet. As an owner and founder of a large business (where this is my primary way of blowing off steam) I can't imagine treating my customers this way and expect them to stick around. Plus, it doesn't help that more than half of the GAC matches I've been assigned are against players with 2-4 more GLs than I do. That's sure fun to lose more there.
I'll finish a couple of farms that I've been working on over the next two weeks just for the satisfaction of seeing those toons unlocked, but I'll likely exit right after that. F2P and low P2P is dead in SWGOH now.
