Mini-whale backing off from SWGOH

For context, I've been spending between $70-$100/month on the game for the last year or so.

But these changes are too much. I get the value a de facto subscription model provides to EA. I get that Marquee toons are where EA makes the most money. I get all of that. But adding more of those WHILE eliminating significant free value to the players to FORCE additional spend is too much. The game was already becoming less fun with the time sink it had become, and I refuse to spend that much more they are requiring just to maintain my place in GAC, etc.

I like the new streamlining efforts, but that streamlining came at too great of a cost: (1) too many new marquee characters rolled out too fast which requires players to get them just to remain relevant and to qualify for benefits we previously were just given, (2) the cost of now even more packs just to gear up/relic/zeta/mod those characters quickly, (3) a loss of free resources gained from monthly events that required considerable investment but now just being sunset (while forcing us to spend even more just to get back to a base level again), and (4) now a subscription model just to qualify for benefits that were existing? I'm also pretty salty that I completed SLKR 3 months before that lightspeed bundle and JML just 8 months before that lightspeed bundle. What is the point of farming anything at this point? Add to this that the player friendly changes (simable battles) aren't even available yet. As an owner and founder of a large business (where this is my primary way of blowing off steam) I can't imagine treating my customers this way and expect them to stick around. Plus, it doesn't help that more than half of the GAC matches I've been assigned are against players with 2-4 more GLs than I do. That's sure fun to lose more there.

I'll finish a couple of farms that I've been working on over the next two weeks just for the satisfaction of seeing those toons unlocked, but I'll likely exit right after that. F2P and low P2P is dead in SWGOH now.

I have been playing for years, and I still don’t have a GL.  It wipes me out of the competition every time.  Just can’t give any more time or money to this flawed game approach that seems to hate their customers.  I quit a few years back, came back, but it’s time to head out.  Too bad, EA.  Much too bad

  • Same here, my love for Star Wars is what really keeps me around. I started this game years ago, I took a break (for a couple of years), and came back last year when the SLKR, SOTE, and Ray LSBs came out.

I am in the same boat when it comes to "mini whale" status. My wife hates it lol, but she understands that this is my outlet.

I think this was too much change to too many systems implemented at one time. The subscription like ERA pass follows the trend of so many other games, I know it was in the Conquest, but I am surprised it took this long to be applied to the root level of the game.

I understood the marquee events is a way to generate income on a regular basis, I kinda sorta played into it, and splurged on the $ packs for those new chars (Neven bought the crystal packs). All this is doing is building my master roster with MORE 5* 1/2 finished toons.

Add onto the fact that the new toon is kinda needed to progress on the ERA Track. IMHO unless you are a mid-high level whale, you will never 7* the marquee character during the marquee event to take advantage of all the rewards of the marquee event.

Still focusing on GA, TW, & Weekly Faction squads but it's getting old fast. I have been steady (unlike when I tried other mobile game) with the day quests and claiming extra energy (the notifications for this is not working btw).

Just getting tired, and now the wife is really getting mad at the hits to the checkbook while I figure out what to or not to spend $$ on.

I was in the 200+ a month range fir the past 2 years.  5 gls hald the prestigious characters and ready to unlock the executor. Doing the math,  it's not enough to keep up. It's either pay more or don't be competitive.

Today was the first day I haver logged in for 2 years. Fully anticipated buying those bundles too.

Lol spending $100 a month doesn’t make you a mini whale. That makes you like a minnow. The whales of this game spend hundreds a month on this game. I spend a few hundred per month on this game, that makes me a mini whale in this game lol.

It would be interesting to see their breakdown of how much of their revenue come from people spending multiple hundred per month, a hundred a month, and less than a hundred a month. It sounds like they are willing to drive the lower spenders from the game if it exploits the higher spenders further. It works for a bit, but in the long run you're killing off the player base that keeps the game active and the community vibrant. It seems remarkably short sighted unless they anticipate the game only lasting another 1-2 years and this is one last cash grab.
