Why would anyone do that? What are you going to do, donate items that you only have a few of but need thousands of? Or donate something both you and your guild mate already have thousands of? Neither of those is useful. I stopped looking at guild donations a few months after they became a thing. Guild donations are almost entirely useless. If you run two accounts you could feed one with the other (some use there) or in rare cirumstances when you want to help a guild mate get those final pieces for a specific toon before GAC/TW/TB starts.
Some guilds actually focus on helping each other through donations. There are many pieces that many players do not have "thousands" of, but enough to share, yet other players may not have enough for that one character they are working on. sure, if all you want is cuffs/guns/carbs, it will seem useless to you, but there is plenty of other gear out there.
