My experience with the mods update:
First off, the update hit after I spent my cantina energy and refreshes. Already off to a bad start, but let's brush this off as bad luck. Life happens.
This is offset just a tiny bit by the fact that my GW was apparently also pre-filled before the mod update, so all the way through node 12, I don't hit a single modded team.
Arena is different. A level 61 player has put the level 70 whale in its place who had dominated the #1 spot for many days now. 5 point modded Reys show up. It's not pretty. I had managed to be top 5 most of the time even as only a low spender (only 21 day crystal packs and starter pack) through focused leveling/gearing and a bit of tactics/sniping.
I'm dropping in ranks daily now, and there is fairly little I can do with the mods I can farm together right now.
Next, by the time my dailies reset, and I can refresh cantina energy, the first fix is live. Mods don't drop as often. This is made additionally painful through the simple fact that I only have four chars with 5 stars or more. It will take a few days for me to get that last 4* up to 5. Before this happens, with another (or the same?) update, leveling mods suddenly takes a lot more credits, i.e. the progress from clicking those level buttons at higher level gets much lower.
So, as opposed to the players who hit the ground running, I
- don't already have full sets of five point mods on all my arena chars
- pay around triple the cantina energy cost to what they paid
- pay a truckload more in credits to level up my first sets of mods
This is what people complain about when they cry about "Precrafting 2.0".
Now, tell me again how I'm not supposed to be frustrated with a deck that's stacked so hard against me and people who fared like me, and just wait for balancing comments until everybody has been fully decked out in five point level 15 mods?
Edit: I forgot one more painful aspect. Even though I got lucky on my GW yesterday, today I am not as lucky. Hence I am unlikely to make node 12 against fully modded teams, and thus make fewer credits, so the gap between the "lucky" First-day-farmers and me is just going to get wider.
