Honestly, starting in zone 4 all the territory battles are pretty brutal without a GL -- at least if you're trying to max them out.
8x GLs at r9, with r9 squads for them is gonna be what sees you through those planets. Other than that, you're gonna want a squad with at least one TB Omi, and then pick the battle you assign them to carefully. That AdRad squad with OmiCassian can handle Empire enemies on the higher-half planets, but not other enemies.
And, of course, GAC and TW include lots of fights where GLs are either required or at least the best/most recommended option.
I'm not opposed to new content, of course, but I think you've undersold the opportunities for GLs in the game right now.
