More stuff in Ships. HIGH EFFORT. New ideas

I feel like ships are very empty and there isn't as much to do in ships. It would be interesting to add ship modifications like mods. It would be like modifying Twin ion engines from Sienar.

you would unlock it using new scavenge parts and you could add different upgrades to make it better. The upgrades would also use the new scavenge parts but you would choose what the upgrades do like more protection or speed etc, and based on what you specced into it could decrease stats too.

So you could have a TIE fighter that was a glass cannon or a TIE fighter that had more durability. And it would be based on the ship, so you couldn't make them veer too far from the base stats.

I think ships are too much like the squad arena or other battles, and I would like it to change and have a different format. The goal could be to take down the opponent's capital ship only and their corvettes. The corvettes would only be 2 and have only health. corvettes would be a new ship type that was used on defense only. these could include the Nebulon B, cr-90, or even the Hammerhead Corvette
.
it could be a way to introduce more ground characters and a way to give existing characters a ship. You would also be able to set the preference of the corvettes to be more defensive or more aggressive. They would have only around 2 abilities. one ability that is more support and a basic attack.
When attacking a capital ship, you could choose what to disable first so that it would call for more strategy. You would have to destroy 3 of 5 components to win. If you destroyed the wrong one the capital ship could escape resulting in your defeat. You would be able to choose the corvettes or the capital ship as a target but different corvettes could have taunts or even capital ships.

When defeating a capital ship you would have 5 things you could attack but only 3 of them are needed for victory. the five components are 1 engine 2 life support 3 communications array 4 bridges and 5 shield generators.

Having these would require you to have to be more selective with the ships you bring because certain ships would get an ion ability that would disable shields. and some ships could have abilities to ignore shields. When attacking each component would have health and protection. All protection would be removed once the shields are destroyed when attacking, if you destroy components in the wrong order, the capital ship would flee. Destroying the weapons or life support before the engines would increase the chance of escape. but not destroying the communications array or the bridge could cause problems too. So it's based on the user's strategy to be able to successfully destroy 3 out of 5 to win.

The new components of a capital ship on defense would serve different purposes. The shield generator would restore the shield when it filled its turn meter until destroyed but it wouldn't have protection. the communications array would call in an attack that would stun your capital ship, weapons would fire attacks at you and life support and engines would be win/lose conditions. destoying them would make it more likley to escape, or when the engines are destroyed more likley to call for the rest of the fleet which would result in all of you ships being destroyed and you would lose.

This wouldn't make the battles longer as you would have the same amount of targets taking turns, and to destroy because you need the 2 corvettes and the 3/5 components.

All in all I just really want more stuff in ships like corvettes.
  • Interesting thoughts.

I doubt that they'll do commit to such extensive changes, but I did enjoy reading your ideas.

Honestly, I think that this is more likely to be implemented as the long asked-for ship raid. Imagine going fighter v. fighter in p1, facing a pair of corvettes in p2, facing the intact cap ship in p3 (goal: destroy the shield generator), and then trying to take the cap ship all the way out in p4.

It's not at all the same as what you're suggesting, but it does have some good flavours and uses a number of your ideas.

As for mods, I'm not in favour.

But while we're talking ships, it hit me the other day that no matter what their solution to the problem of power creep in ships that bypasses pilotless ships (who have no way to keep upgrading the way you can keep upgrading ships through adding another relic level to their pilots each time a new relic level is released) it's obvious that they should call whatever doohicky they use to keep pilotless ships relevant a "power coupling".

There's so much talk of power couplings in SW that this seems a great chance to incorporate this bit of popular dialog into the game.

I really like your ideas. I normally spend the minimum amount of time in ships simply because I don't find it fun. Maybe incorporating your ideas (or at least a few of them) might make it more engaging and fun? It's certainly worth considering.
