Not a total wash
Compared to other events, this is probably one of the easiest farms for veteran players seeing as most uave had these toons unlocked and 7 starred for ages. And most of them are probably even at g12. ...

I'm sure few people have them already at R3, but it's not a wild requirement considering most people already have those at 7*. For competitive players (and yes this include f2p), it isn't crazy to think they can gear them up to R3 in time for the event.

R3 is minimum, it’ll be difficult to do it R3 I’m guessing. You’ll need r5+ to eat through all of it.
I would have to say it is a bit crazy to think f2p players will meet the requirements in ~1 week, unless you already had them g12 or higher. If the event rolled out next month, then yes, it’d be fine, but the fact it was sprung upon us with 2 days notice (for me) is sudden.
The only problem I have with the reqs are the characters. Gear I’m fine with, it’s the characters. I posted on another thread the amount of g11s and higher of each ROLO, CHS and Lando, I’d say around 5% of the player base has them all relic’d or at g12.
And the trash characters for JKL have next to no use in this game, the trash characters for GLs have some uses in a zFinn team.
Not true. The GL toons are just as uselss. Resistance Pilot - useless, not even his ship is useable. FOTP - Useless, not even his ship. FOSFTP - semi useless, other than fodder on an SLK team but even that is a stretch, ship garbage too. Phasma, don't get me started, wasted zeta, Holdo, Rose, again, don't get me started. Vets and POE, debatable GAC use but that is it. So what is the difference? At least there are far fewer and easier to relic. In fact, of all the toons for both events, most have already g12 or better Wampa, HY, GMY, 3PO, Chewie and some even did ROLO CHS and Lando for the fun of it (long term players that is.)
They release toons based on the event, while i agree the synergies are weird with GAS and GK (not yoda and HY) the event takes place during Empire therefore they all fit into the event. Argument about R2 not being there although he was not present in cloud city where I imagine Chewie, Lando, ROLO, CHS and 3PO come in.
Short of a bunch of free stuff and an easy event for everyone, this was destined to be a failure anyway with the current state of unnecessary anger brought on by useless youtubers making money off of nothing of value with fake concern. They only concern they have is their income that is why they are mad, not because of the "Community ignored" ****. quit or shut up already. get over the fact that social media leeches lost their clout and play the game. Save the anger for the RA if it doesn't produce a new game mode as referenced. If anything shuts this game down is everyone's unjustified anger at a company trying to make money. (Hint: companies don't give stuff away for free just because they don't live up to expectations, if that was the case, Apple, MS, Insurance Companies, Car Companies, etc would be out of business.) This is a game and a business that allows people to play for free, they owe F2P nothing if you really think about it. People who pay, i am sorry to say, get the special treatment as they pay for the game, not the riders for free.
According to swgoh.gg 33% of players have wampa and 34% at gear 12 or better. Less than 5% have Lando (4). Chs (3), or Role(1). I don't think the requirements are bad but idea that most people have both yoda and wampa is ridiculous. As is thinking a significant number have the other 3.
As far as R2, please tell me a character who had more interaction with Luke in ESB. Certainly not Lando, Chewie or C3P0. I also don't remember seeing Wampa or Yoda in Cloud City.
Some of the outrage would be lessened if the road ahead came out (and was reasonable) prior to the character release. Companies give away stuff all the time; my insurance company gives me something everytime I meet with a representative. I've never bought a new car without getting rims and tires thrown in, sales reps often bring merchandise or take me for meals.
If you're happy with the game good for you. You have as much chance of convincing those who are upset that everything is fine as they do of showing you how bad it is. So take your own advice and get over it.
this made me chuckle as you thought I actually meant new players. anyone playing over 3 years has all of these toons at least 7* and can easily get them to g12. In my GAC i see a ton of g13 Wampa, HY, and others on this list. Your analogy with cars is the funniest thing i have heard. Dude, apples and oranges. And the crap you get for free publicity and branded. Don't be silly. R2 was with Luke far less in ESB than anywhere else. Before you and all the other sheep start bashing the event, play it first and see why R2 isn't there. If there is a spot in the event that matched the movie where R2 is there then I will apologize but speculation says there will be portions in the event that did not involve R2 at all. it is a journey event.
The only valid point you make is the RA lessening the outrage. I have nothing to get over, it is the communities outrage over a game and a company that is trying to make money. You can find fault in anything you want but the nice thing is, no one is holding you hostage here that if you are that made move on.
