Dear Devs

Pls take your time to create Obi from SE ep III or Clone Wars. And pls pls dont screw him up. He should be the second best Jedi after Yoda. So pls take your time, watch the movies, the Clone Wars and make him right

How is this even a discussion? Yoda and Obi-Wan were the only Jedi of hundreds to survive Order 66; in Obi-Wan's case it was after defeating the Jedi who possessed the highest midichlorian count ever recorded. To the people who think Anakin is better.... Have you even seen the movies?

I based my reasoning for 1) Yoda 2) Anakin 3) Obi-Wan because of many reasons lest not forget that Obi-Wan himself proclaimed Anakin as a great warrior, great pilot and great friend "You knew my father?" - Luke Skywalker Episode IV when Anakin killed all those younglings at the Jedi Temple he no longer was Anakin Skywalker his fall was complete, the seduction had occurred he help kill Mace Windu.

Anakin Skywalker was "the Chosen One" Anakin didn't kill the younglings Darth Vader did; Obi-Wan is the greatest Jedi swordsman there's a difference - Obi-Wan's swordsmanship and forethought defeated Lord Vader on Mustafar (Vader's over-confidence also played a part) on equal footing and ground I think Lord Vader would've defeated Kenobi.

  • Everyone seems to forget that Luke blew the Death Star had 2 weeks of training, confronted Vader on Cloud City, Jumped to his death and survived, took down the Jabba crime syndicate, beat Vader and had the power to turn him back to the light side. All that on two weeks training! !!
  • First off Doku is not a Jedi and second: if u are really better you dont take that jump ;) Finally: Mace? Lol

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Rey. She had 0 training.

Yes, that's why many of us are not mentioning her. From a lore perpsective, I'm trying hard to forget that that movie was ever made. :(
Someone should edit some clips of her fighting from that movie and put in a yellow "Jedi Mastery for Dummies" book in her backpack. What a farce.

2nd best Jedi after Yoda? Strongly disagree. 4th at best.

    1. Yoda
    2. Mace
    3. Anakin (Unless you include Dooku)
    4. Obi Wan

......but i guess opinion plays a big part.

Wait what? Anakin better than Obi Wan? You clearly forgot what happened on that volcano... :|

just because of a bad movie production doesn't take away the story behind the character

they just needed a way for Obi-wan to win and they came out with that terrible high ground idea

even with that bad idea technically obiwan could not beat Anakin with out an advantage
  • One consistent theme of the prequel lightsaber fights: very cool to watch for a long time and then ruin it with incredibly lame endings that make little sense.
  • Gotta break it down. If we are talking raw potential with the Force, then Anakin or Luke wins, hands down. Rey (too little information available) might sneak in there too.

If we're talking martial prowess we should compare the combatants at their finest. Of course an aged Obi-Wan isn't as agile as say 30 yr old Obi-Wan.

Since OP asked for a Galactic Republic Obi-Wan I'll not include Luke in this ranking list. Also, too little material available to compare combatants from different eras with each other. There are some great VS series on YouTube for those who want to see some proper breakdowns of these characters!

    1) Anakin (Jedi) peaked at the time when he defeated Dooku, alone. In a pure lightsaber duel. This is an absolutely amazing achievement, but I suspect many don't realize exactly how big it is until you've read up a little on Dooku.

    2) Dooku (Sith) Dooku probably peaked during Clone Wars, where he was absolutely unstoppable. Took on Anakin+Obi-Wan several times, survived Ventress' ambushes twice. Manhandled Obi-Wan with his Force pushes and in duels. Called the finest Jedi of them all by Yoda. One of only two Jedi (the other being Yoda) who defeated Windu in a duel (source: New Essential guide to Characters. Not canon anymore but it's still a source of info on how they gauged the character).

    3) Mace Windu, peaked during his battle with Sidious. Let it be noted that Mace believed his old Padawan Depa Billaba to be his superior with the blade. But Mace had Shatterpoint, his ridiculous Force augmentation and finally his deep commitment to Vaapad made him almost invincible in a duel. Especially vs Dark Side foes.

    4) Obi-Wan (ep 3) after the defeat against Dooku in episode 2, Obi-Wan intensified his Soresu training. This shows in the Clone Wars, where he single handedly defeats Maul AND Savage Oppress. Obi-Wan is tough to gauge. We only know that he can take absolutely insane amounts of punishment. He has yet to be defeated in a pure lightsaber duel, but he's prone to having his Force shield penetrated.

His strongest offensive trait is his tactical sensibility. Mid battle against Grievous he changes the angle of his parries, cutting off the droid general's limbs. His win against Vader on Mustafar was due to his ability to make tactical decisions on the fly. He survived against Maul and Savage by repeatedly kicking Savage in the knee(!).

(Yoda) not included on this list because of... Reasons. He's probably up at the top, even though his performance in any of the present canon material doesn't really support it.

Important point: Any of these characters could probably win a battle against any of the others, in the right circumstances. It's extremely hard to gauge their relative strengths and weaknesses. Dooku was overwhelmed by Anakin's offense, but Obi-Wan likely wouldn't. Mace would likely defeat Dooku since he went to the Dark Side, but that is likely more due to Mace's combat specialisation. He would likely beat Anakin too, due to sheer experience. But looking at the Clone Wars, Anakin performs the greatest feats and pulls off what others thought impossible.

Sort of like this game? :)
Nice writeup. But a couple of these fights I don't think are what they appear on the surface. Dooku was IMO holding back on Anakin based on some plan by Sidious until the latter betrayed him; whether Anakin would win anyway, I don't know, but I suspect Dooku could have defeated him again using Force manipulation if nothing else, and probably just with the lightsaber. Mace vs. Sidious, it is pretty obvious that Sidious deliberately allowed himself to be put into a situation where Anakin would be compelled to intervene, I mean, it wasn't even subtle.... "Can't.. too weak.. don't let him kill me! Boo-hoo!" .. this was like grade-school level play-acting.
  • @Qeltar Exactly my thoughts too. It's also highly likely that Sidious regarded Dooku as a threat to himself. It's hinted in some source... Gotta look up where. That may be why he ordered Anakin to kill Dooku.

I'm not sure, but I think the sudden loss of both bhis hands may have hampered Dooku's ability to cast Force lightning. Vader could never use the skill for this reason.

Seeing how many times Dooku and Anakin faced off though, I find it hard to believe that Dooku would be careless. He was a tactical mastermind. I simply think that Anakin was right. His powers had grown quicker than Dooku could possibly realize.
