Odd Mod Question/Help

Or maybe not, but I figured since many of you have been here a lot longer it may not seem so unusual.

Has anyone ever run into a situation where they added a mod to a character that seems to be better in terms of stats, but that it actually translated into a worse outcome in battle? In my case, I fitted a character with a lvl 15 mod that had the same primary stat (defense) but clearly improved all other the other secondary stats the mod that was swapped out (potency, speed and protection) by a good margin. The only negative impact was a very slight drop in physical damage. But ever since I used that mod on my toon (TFP), it's been pretty bad. I tested it in arena with the same top few players in my shard and the outcome was the same for every battle. It almost seems like the extra speed or some other factor kicked the battle order around in a way that was disadvantageous to my team, considering I had no problem beating them prior to this supposedly better mod.

Just wondering if this was a common issue, and regardless, if anyone else noticed that a supposed improvement on paper actually leads to worse results in battle.

Note: When I replaced the old mod back, I got the same consistent favorable results as before. It was a pricey test but I was able to replicate the previous results consistently.
  • Anyone see this issue with a so-called good mod that ends up having less beneficial effects than a previous one that had the same type of stats, but at a lesser percentage?
  • TFP relies heavely on debuffed enemy toons. Perhaps there were just less debuffed enemy toons around just when you switched the mod. I'm just making assumptions here, but it seems plausible.

Yeah I was looking for that. Since the squads I was doing my tests on were the same group, I was wondering the same thing .. it is possible that the debuff/buff status might have played a role. I just requipped the new mod in question and got smoked though lol. Very odd ..
  • in GW you can test it out properly, retreat the same battle over and over to see the difference. (and count the amount of debuffed enemies ofcourse ;))
  • I had this issue with Lando and Ackbar...set up my squad so Lando had 1 less speed than Ackbar so he could drop the double double down. Changing mods drastically changed how this performed (going from 5-0 against an Arena squad to 0-5 against the same squad).

Outside of speed changing the order of your toons though, I also find it odd that it would make that big of a difference with a percent here or there on different stats :)
  • Good call, I will try that too. Thank you!

It's weird though and I'm curious if anyone else has had any experience with "better" mods with lousy results .. Just wondering since I'm at the point where other than Zetas, it's all about investing in mods as well for me (other than mixing up/leveling up different characters, which are more time consuming)

Yeah, I honestly was wondering that too. Assuming that number of debuffed enemies for TFP was not the issue, I almost wonder if adding that extra speed by a couple of points with the new mod actually messed up the cadence of the battle that it exposed my tank to too much damage too fast, which ultimately messed up my team. Trying to figure it out but I guess if others (hopefully more here on this thread) had similar issues - has it made anyone reluctant to go all-in on investing in a great mod?
