That ("considering the price tag they're putting on these toons asking for them for free is ridiculous") is a strange argument. If they were less expensive would it make more sense to ask for them for free?
In any case, the argument here is 'not getting ANY toons that can ben used in endgame material when a group of toons is released ignores the f2p (or < $400/toon) players who are concerned with endgame content'. One proposed solution is to release SOME of the "shiny new toons" such that the community can use them in endgame content.
