Tank raid wants you to have 20+ gear 9 or 10 characters, but the challenges award junk gear in droves, and the missions have a poor drop rate for pieces of the epic items for which you need 50 to assemble one unit. Then units need mutiples of these (looking at you needles and cuffs).
But then you go through the effort to find they've released the new (borderline?) overpowered hotness. Unless youre spending you'll barely get a toon servicable (especially for arena) before its out of Meta. Plus throwing these new OP characters in one off tournaments (which some have hacked) meaning a well developed roster will still wind up not collecting the character.
What I would like to see is the old tier 10 gear drop at 100% rate. Make gear 11 the grind now since all characters can get there. And tournaments pay out based on total points earned, not placement. IE get the 7 star toon if you earn 7000 points (or whatever). It will never happen though.
They have to find a balance not just between characters but for players to make meaningful progression at a decent rate, but not so fast that the whales suddenly have nothing to do.
