I can relate. All my characters, even those as useless as Ugnaut are min level 65 gear level 8+. Back in the day.... So yes I geared my characters, which CG has overtly said they specifically do not want to disincentivize players from doing (see NS zombie rework), so yes this is against the intent of the game and it would likely be an easy fix just to do with the crafting UI.
This. I am honestly surprised at how many people misunderstand this. And it doesn't mean you're even a whale - it just means you've played for a long time and geared your toons to help your guild in TB before "slim" rosters became important.
